Fascinating but creepy

This place puts Rio Vista on the map. It is the only place to take visitors that is unique and everyone has a strong opinion about the décor! We have sat at the table under the elephant tusks on many an occasion. The animal heads are so old, they don't exactly look real. The food is secondary... read more

This bar / restaurant has been in Rio Vista,California, for many years. Unimpressive from the outside, once you enter the bar is dominated by over one hundred stuffed animal heads that the original hunter collected in safaris in Africa, Asia, Canada and elsewhere. The restaurant is located in the back, and provides reasonably priced food and drink. Not exactly a... More

The main dining room has at least one of every kind of animal stuffed and mounted on the walls. It is a throwback to a time long gone by when big game hunters took a trophy home from their latest safari. Most of these were bagged in the 1940's when that sort of thing was popular. The food is very... More

"Old photos on the wall tell the story of a lifetime of commitment to the preservation of a world no longer available to us" It is interesting to note that in most of those photos Mr. Foster holds a big gun, making sure that he was part of creating the reality "of a world no longer available to us". "Commitment... More

We had lunch at Fosters Bighorn Bar as I remembered eating there more than 40 + years ago. We were just passing through on our way to Napa Valley. Very happy to see all the "heads on the walls" in all the different rooms again; it was just as I remembered. Take your time, buy some food and soak in... More

My wife and I "pop in" to Fosters Bighorn Bar on a recommendation from a local from Locke; we were just passing through on the way home from Lake Tahoe. Very surprised to see all the "heads on the walls" in all the different rooms...... do not miss the back room, but say hello to he elephant on the way... More

The most striking aspect of Foster's are the animal heads on the walls. Truly unique. Elephant and giraffe along with hundreds of others. Food is ordinary. Pass Foster's up for something better in Rio Vista

Every horned animal in the world (I think) has it's head on the wall. The bar is a must stop if driving through the delta. The food is ok and the service at the bar is friendly but slow. If you hate taxidermy don't stop. If you are hunting for unique watering holes for a quick stop, this must make... More

A super unique experience. I grew up in and around this place so I had to move away and come back to appreciate the uniqueness of Fosters. My favorite plate to eat is the Calamari, I will say this dish is the best I have ever eaten anywhere and I have traveled and eaten all over the world. Fantastic.

On your next trip to Rio Vista stopping in at Foster's Bighorn is a must. I'm a resident of Rio Vista and have eaten here several times. The food is always good. ( I had a full rack of pork ribs.)This time I found the service particularly good. People come from all over to see the taxidermy of the numerous... More
