Best Creme Brûlée ever!

Had dinner here with two colleagues. They first brought a sliced loaf of delicious bread. I had the caesar salad for a starter. It was okay but it tasted a bit too much like anchovies. We each ordered the scallops and everyone loved them. The chef created each one of our dishes differently as... read more

This is one our favorite restaurants on the Peninsula. The food is always so good and consistent. The service is always amazing. It's great for couples and groups. We are so lucky to have this restaurant in our neighborhood.

One of the best dinners we had in our 6-day San Fran-Palo Alto stay. Just simple excellence. Wine terrific. Salmon starter lovely. Fresh sea bass prepared with just the right amount of flavor and textures and colors...good presentation, good service and really good food... perhaps more old school in terms of decor but rather welcome compared of too trendy that... I was at John Bentley's to celebrate a friend's birthday and had such a nice evening, including one of the best meals I've ever had! I was tempted by everything on the menu, but the mushroom "pasta" dish peaked my curiosity. Thankfully! It was delicious AND healthy! The dish included trumpet mushrooms, tomato, garlic, basil, Kalamata olives, edamame and Pecorino... More

The Hanger Steak is excellent. It is served in a different way from most restaurants and is just delicious. We have been clients of John Bentley for years and always come in with a smile. We have never had a disappointing meal at John's!! When we are not too hungry, we eat at the bar and are served fantastic artichoke... More

Our food was excellent. The ahii tuna and the hanger steak were both delicious. We shared an entrée portion of the pasta, which was equally delicious but so skimpy that had it been ordered as an entrée it would have been inadequate. As an entrée, split, it was 4 modest mouthfuls. This is in stark contrast to the very adequate... More

Friends of ours from Palo Alto suggested John Bentley's as a rendezvous point for three couples converging from three points in the Bay Area. My wife and I came from our Berkeley VRBO. This being California and Rush Hour, it took us an hour and forty minutes to get there. The food and ambience were so good I'd do it... More

We've been going to John Bentley's for years, both the old and new location on El Camino. John's an amazing, inventive chef. There are so many favorites, the best thing I can do is list them...Grilled Marinated Quail, Molasses Lacquered Pork Belly, Tuna Tartar, Pressed Duck, Salmon, Scallops, Ahi, Veal Medallions.....all topped off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding. TDF (to... More
