Stopped at the Black Bear in Redding while passing through on our way to Portland. This was our first experience with the chain and we were very pleased. Service was friendly and efficient (many of the servers had been there for 10 years or more which says something about it as a place to work - or the lack of... More

Good comfort food. Friendly hometown service feel. Always busy, so arrive early. You can park next door when the parking lot is full. We took home souvenirs of Papa Bear, Mama Bear & Baby Bear Hot sauces. Tasty and a novelty.

The road on Highway 5 from the bay area to Oregon is a long one and Redding is a good spot to stop for food. We had heard that Redding was the home of the original Black Bear Diner so we headed there.. The parking lot was full as a testament to its attraction. Its housed in what looks to... More

and I do, you'll like this place. The portions are large and the prices very reasonable. Our dinner came quickly and the servers were friendly and attentive.

This is a great breakfast, lunch or dinner place. Very casual. Food is served in very large portions so you may want to opt for one of the smaller portion meals they offer if you are not a big eater. Can be crowded, especially on Sundays.

Was on a road trip and thought we may as well try this restaurant right off the freeway. The food was decent with very large portions which is a plus for some but others like myself felt it was way too much. Because we were on the road taking leftovers in a to go box wasn't a good option. The... More

This is one of the first few black bear diners and it shows. Good food. Awesome breakfasts. Great pot roast. I go often.

We came in the day after Thanksgiving- Our last meal before hitting the road home. Everyone ordered different dishes- Wife had a scramble, I had eggs and bacon, the kid had pancakes. Nothing tasted right. The scramble tasted like it was cooked the prior day and frozen before being reheated in a microwave. My eggs had the same lazy preparation... More

No skipping on the amount of food on your plate. Great for breakfast and their kid's size cheeseburger is perfecr for me. Good food, good quality and affordable. Great if you like bears!
