Other reviewers were not kidding when they reported that their steaks are some of the best ever. We were in Redding for one night and I had read the reviews and decided to go here even though it was reported as lacking atmosphere. Definitely one of the best steaks I have ever had, and I live near Berns Steakhouse in... More

Still on the road trip, and it was time to try out another place that I had found. Not only was it a steakhouse that truly specialized in steak, it had a great history to it, starting back in 1938. We got to talk to a local couple outside of the restaurant while waiting for it to open, and they... More

Tried this steakhouse last night thanks to Yelpers and it was perhaps one of the best steaks we have ever had in Ca. The place is small and dark and appears to be a bar but omg don't let that stop you. It was a hoot & very good value

I reviewed this restaurant in April on our first trip to Redding and gave it 4 stars. But maybe you should only go once a year. It is, after all, just a dive bar with very good steak. The lack of ambiance was painful tonight. Maybe because of the football game and the attendant noise? The steak was good--the Manhattan... More

This historic landmark hasn't changed in years. Simple menu done right. Great service and historic ambiance. I recommend having the Jacks steak. Great value for the money. I have been here numerous times and will continue to go back.

While the food has a great reputation as best steak in town, we waited a very long time to be seated and even longer to be waited on. Prices good.

I went with a friend for dinner here. We went in expecting to have to wait and got lucky, go seated at a 2 top, a bit small but fine. Sure it is dark in there and it is small, but the steak was perfect, and the bartender makes a really good dirty martini! Our server whose name I forgot... More

If you are not a beef person, Jack's may not be your best choice. But the steaks are great - good quality and cooked to perfection. Consider asking for a bit less dressing on your salad. We will definitely be back when we are again in Redding. Suggestion: plan to be there before the 5:00pm dinner opening time or your... More

Local place where those in the know eat. Our second time here and, can you see me salivating????? Not a fancy place but well worth the visit. Coming in off the street will find you in eye adjustment phase as it is dark. limited seating but worth the time. Menu contains lots of steak, some fish, then, more delicious steak.... More

Jack's is a rustic (not cutesie rustic, but actually rustic) old bar/former bordello. Darkly lit, tin ceilings, cheap tables and chairs, very friendly and accommodating staff (down-home style, not snotty style) booze, plenty of people there at dinnertime -- it's all here. Come in for steak and salad (and a baked potato) because that's mostly what's available. If that's what... More
