If you are not a beef person, Jack's may not be your best choice. But the steaks are great - good quality and cooked to perfection. Consider asking for a bit less dressing on your salad. We will definitely be back when we are again in Redding. Suggestion: plan to be there before the 5:00pm dinner opening time or your... More

Local place where those in the know eat. Our second time here and, can you see me salivating????? Not a fancy place but well worth the visit. Coming in off the street will find you in eye adjustment phase as it is dark. limited seating but worth the time. Menu contains lots of steak, some fish, then, more delicious steak.... More

Jack's is a rustic (not cutesie rustic, but actually rustic) old bar/former bordello. Darkly lit, tin ceilings, cheap tables and chairs, very friendly and accommodating staff (down-home style, not snotty style) booze, plenty of people there at dinnertime -- it's all here. Come in for steak and salad (and a baked potato) because that's mostly what's available. If that's what... More

I went here with my husband expecting quality. Well I got it... but ONLY in the steak. First of all, it is a DARK AND SMALL place(I had to use my phone as a flashlight to look at my food!). It is also louder than a train going by at all times, I had to yell at my husband in... More

This was the third time we have driven north just over an hour to eat at Jack's Grill. The place is small and dark which makes it very unique. The restaurant has been busy each time we have been there. We got there early to get a table and sat at the bar until it was time to be seated.... More

The other recent reviews are accurate. The restaurant is a dark and very noisy bar, lots of 2-3 person tables, all full when we arrived at around 5:30. We had NY steaks which come with a family style bowl of salad, choice of fries or baked potato, and some toasted french bread. The bleu cheese dressing was unremarkable--seemed to be... More

We enjoyed a family dinner recently and it was fun and delicious, but it was not conducive to conversation. The restaurant is one big crowded room with most people congregated around the bar waiting for a table. The salad is served family style and nothing to write home about. The potatoes are huge; one is enough to feed a village!... More

I've learned when you're from out of town and want a good meal, the best question to ask is "where do you go when you dine out?". While staying in Redding visiting a friend, I asked this to the woman at the front desk at my hotel. She told me about Jack's and warned me it's not the type of... More

This is an old place in Redding with a past reputation of no frills and a steak and salad. A place for the bar crowd. No reservations and just wait your turn. If you want to experience a good steak and share a bowl of salad try it. Everybody talks about Jacks...but for me it's history. I remember when!

Had an early dinner at Jack's before a concert at the Cascade Theater which is around the corner. They don't take reservations so we sat at the bar and had a couple of Margaritas which I would rate as average…not great but not bad. We got seated and our server offered suggestions about their steaks. We decided to share a... More
