Had high expectations for this Mexican restaurant since it's always extremely busy, but very disappointing. I had the chile relleños...too much batter and cheese and very little chile. The chips were very hard and tasteless and the hot sauce was not hot. My husband had the fajitas. The meat was very tough and again tasteless.

What sets a great restaurant apart is consistent good food. We have been eating at this restaurant since 1985 and the food has not changed at all. Always great! This is a family run business that we have seen the children grow and take over for their parents. The service is great and the people are very friendly. Prices are... More

Excellence is synonymous with this hole-in-the-wall Mexican eatery! From their endless fresh "homemade" chips and mouth-warming dips to their traditional desserts. This place is THE place to go! Perched in the southwest corner of Bradford and Menudo Streets in olde town Placentia, it is not readily visible! No frills fabulous traditional ethnic Latino fair speaks of their name and the... We had a party of 12 and were treated spectacularly! The service was absolutely amazing. They catered to our needs completely. The food was excellent. Mexican is not my favorite food but I was blown away by how good this food was. It had flavor and wasn't just a sloppy mess of food with sauce and cheese on top. The... More

This was my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant. I left a really great Yelp review when I used to Yelp often. We finally visited again (been here 5x), and this visit was not the same. Service was abysmal. Wait times were a mess (so many parties ahead of us going first). We waited 15 minutes before being asked what we wanted to... More

Used to eat here at least 3 times a week when I lived behind the Orange Curtain many moons ago. To this day, I still use El Farolito as the litmus test for what good, home-style Mexican food should be. I have yet to find better or even on par with the Sandoval Family's amazing recipes. Hands down the best... More

Our friends brought us here for dinner. We came to town from Phoenix, AZ where Mexican food is also everywhere. So I didn't expect much. We waited 30 minutes for our table of 12 so that's pretty fast for a very busy little restaurant with lots of customers. I don't like waiting, but I had no choice since this we... More

In an area saturated by Mexican restaurants, this little place stands out! We had a great experience: the food was excellent and the service was good. I had the Carnitas plate and it was done to perfection. The rice and refried beans were among the best I ever had. The Enchilada plate was good, but the Carnitas was noteworthy.

In old town Placentia. Almost always full of happy customers, often there is some waiting. Serves breakfast all day, but the lunch and dinner menu is more attractive to me. I especially like the Ranchera sauce on strips of chicken white meat, with rice, beans, and tortillas.
