We had a fairly miserable evening last night at the Yanagai Sushi & Grill in Pismo Beach. We made a Teppen Grill table reservation for 7pm for a party of 7. When we arrived at 6:55 we were told that our table had been given to a group of 3 because 'our policy is that we can't turn walk-ins away".... More

Yanagi Sushi, Pismo Beach: Excellent menu and food: I liked the fact that they take the time and effort to make there dishes with there own ideas in taste and presentation, Very cool! Service: Gets slow as they fill up Atmosphere: I give a four out of five, It gets quit loud at times.

We've eaten here before, but think it has slipped a bit. The maki rolls were OK, not great. The Katsu bowl was lukewarm and is not served with the traditional katsu sauce. As others have commented, the atmosphere is just too raucous, especially with the Teppenyaki (and tipsy customers, which the staff encourage to an even higher din). The beautiful... More

Had become one of my favourite go-to joints when on the Central Coast. While not the cheapest, the quality of ingredients is second-to-none. Superb Dragon Roll and this time, Scallops and Shrimp with fried rice of which there was an ample amount and both succulent and plump. Mouthwatering grub! If you can be there as the sun sets, it's quiet... More

We love Yanagi Sushi, but we usually go to their sister restaurant WOW sushi because Yanagi's is uncomfortably noisy. We had friends visiting from out of town and Yanagi has the million dollar view, so we went there. I actually think the sushi is better there than WOW, but we could hardly converse. The Teppan tables contribute to the noise,... More

Teppan style dining is as much for the show as for the food. We started out with drinks and some excellent sushi, then the chef Tiger rolled up his cart and went to work. He was very entertaining as he sliced, diced, and grilled. The steak was quite tender, the scallops were HUGE, and the shrimp and veggies were delicious.... More

We come here 1-2 times annually as we grew up on bennihanas and this is the closest thing to it.... The last two visits have been such a disappointment. The women servers for teppan service are so rude ans make u feel so rushed. The cooks are in and out and do way less of a show. The food is... More
