Description: Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a...
Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.

Casual classic Italian

A favorite of ours on every visit to Pismo Beach. The food is consistently very good, excellent service, and wide range of beverage choices. The atmosphere is casual that suits both those who want to dress up and those in jeans. Highly recommend

Being Italian, I sometimes can be a little picky about Italian restaurants. This is as close as you'll get to your Nona's cooking in the area! Great service too.

Visited Giuseppe's on the recommendation of an Italian-American acquaintance. The atmosphere, service, and food were all very good. The pizzas are not huge, but enough to share between two people. The wine list has a decent selection of Tuscan wine at reasonable places, and of course lots of local California selections. A local artist has nice works displayed on the... More

Loved the food and the bar, we were staying next store and didn't want to venture far and this place was our oaisys for the night. Loved sitting at the bar with a great bartender who took care of us and the Italian food was really delicious. The waiter we had was very good and made us feel at home.... More

There were five of us dining together on a beautiful, warm Saturday evening in Pismo Beach. Our hotel recommended Giuseppe's Cucina to us. Excellent recommendation! Excellent meal from start to finish! I had a salad (Della Citta), but all the salads at our table received rave reviews. I then had the local fish special (Pacific Corvina). The fish was cooked... We had very good cocktails to start out, and enjoyed generous portions of salad (including the iceberg lettuce and the special Sicilian salad) and pasta (linguine with seafood and bucatelli with meatballs). The special dip for bread was really tasty - a combination of garlic, parmesan cheese, rosemary and other spices mixed with olive oil at the table.

Be sure to have the fried zucchini blossoms. Delicate with a bit of cheese inside. Amazing! Service is spot on. Highly recommend!!!

I ate at this lovely italian restaurant when I stayed in a motel close by as part of a PCH road-trip. The restaurant was buzzing, but not too loud. You could hear yourself speak which was good! The staff were super friendly and the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

Our experience at Giuseppe's was excellent. Everything from the calamari and bone dry KettleOne martinis (up, two olives), to the lamb and veal paired with the owner's personal Pinot Noir, completed with well prepared pasta and warm, crusty bread, our experience sitting at the bar was memorable. The service was impeccable, not intrusive. Thanks to the suggestion of the bartender... More
