Description: Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a...
Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.

Second visit and consistently excellent. Had the Capellini with a small garden salad. Just delicious, prompt and knowledgable wait staff. Wood burning pizza oven! Outstanding wine list. Lunch or dinner, it won't disappoint.

Driving through town, my kids picked it out, mostly based the name. It's fancy looking, but T shirts and flip flops were at most tables. The bread came to the table where they mixed their house dip - parmesan, garlic,EVOO and balsamic vinegar - DANGEROUSLY ADDICTIVE. For dinner my wife had a Margarita pizza, which was nicely done in the... More

There is a reason that Giuseppe's is always crowded . . . it offers the best food in Pismo Beach. Friendly and efficient service, outstanding food, generous portions and reasonable prices make it a winner. We never go to Pismo Beach without dining at least once at Giuseppe's and we have never been disappointed. Terrific pizza and flatbreads, scrumptious pastas... More

Small, intimate restaurant with a pizza oven in the dinning area where an older man hand makes pizza. Outstanding!

This place is worth the wait to eat at. If you like Italian food you will love the food here. The bread and dressing they do will leave you craving more. Fresh baked sliced thin Italian hard crust bread with the most delicious parmesan cheese/fresh olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing mixed at your table for that bread. Don't over eat on... More

We ordered frutti di mare pasta and it was very good- perhaps not the best we've had, but it was very tasty. The garlic and chees dip they serve before the meal is also very nice.

Giuseppe's is all about authentic Italian cuisine and any local foodie will tell you the same. I am a big fan. I even make special trips to buy imported pasta from their deli store (you can taste the difference from American made, why, I don't know). Hands down the best in the county.
