Description: Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.

My wife and I had dinner here about a week ago. Food and wat this restaurant is absolutely fantastic. Prices and portions are great. Very popular restaurant on the central coast. We also love Rosa's which is also in Pismo.

Picked up pizza at express location. A little pricey, but 18" pizza was good for two meals for two. Could have been hotter. Maybe better to have them deliver.

surprisingly spectacular Italian food for a beach town -- which is why there is almost always a wait to get in --- everything from the hand-made pizza to the veal is incredibly good --- the owner and his wife happened to be there during one of my visits and found to be as charming as could be -- service is... We go to this restaurant every time we are in Pismo Beach. They do not take reservations so be prepared to go to the bar and have a drink but it is worth the wait. Authentic italian food. You may want to split a meal as they are all HUGE! Their gnocchi is to die for. Excellent service. Go early.

Popular spot with great wine, the owner makes a Syrah that is wonderful. Fresh fish and lots of pasta choices as well as all the Southern Italian favorites. They make a special bread dipping sauce with olive oil balsamic and fresh Parmesan .

A nice location which we sat outside at and in the middle of the town. The team were friendly and the choice and quality of food really good. We had a strombola each and they were excellent, mine a meat one and my wife had the vegetarian which she really enjoyed. Nice and simple and very good.

Our dinner was excellent! Loved the atmosphere, very we'll designed and decor classy! The starter bread and garlic Parmesan dip was so good. I had butternut ravioli and my husband had veal Parmesan, he gave me a bite and the veal just melted...so tender. My ravioli was great and as my title wanting to lick my plate, it's true but... More

Always a great meal .. A bit crowded .. But it is popular! We love the bar. Ask for a booth if you can get it.

I always enjoy good authentic italian food but, I was a little unimpressed with the quality of our food. It was labor day weekend and they were slammed. It seemed there was more attention given to production rather than quality which, I understand. I would be more than happy to try it out again during a much slower season.

Let me start by saying this place has great food! It rec'd only 4 due to service (2* for the waiter, 5* for the bartender!). We arrived and was told the wait was 5-10 min so we went to the bar with the kids (kid friendly bar gets 5* in my book!). We had some wine and Shirley temples and... More
