Description: Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a...
Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.

We walked across street from our hotel "Valentina's" and had one of the best meals in Pismo. I had the Pistachio Chicken...It was to die for :)

This restaurant was delicious. We shared the Diavolo pizza. I ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder. We enjoyed the bread with the garlic, Parmesan, and balsamic vinegar. The wine was devine. It's now our favorite Italian Restaurant in Pismo. The dessert was fresh and melted in our mouths. (Chocolate) Ryan the bartender was talkative and friendly. You will love this... More

First the bad news. I thought $9 for a martini was a way too stiff. The good news is that the menu prices are very reasonable for very high quality Italian fare. They took great care of 8 of us, celebrating a birthday. Appetizers (I can recommend the carpaccio), salads (caesar was large, good to split), pizzas, pastas, and secondis... More

I had a pizza, my partner had gluten-free pasta (some sort of fishy sauce) for lunch. Very tasty. A couple of years ago (when last in Pismo) we had dinner here - it's now our go-to restaurant. Go for the fish, but if one party is not keen, there's lots of other good food on the menu.

...from food to Owner's wines : the owner comes from authentic Italian gene pool and has remained faithfull to family and Italian Culinary tradition when it comes to menu and local house vineyard. Two examples, directly from what I experienced in wine and food, the first, scaloppini parmigiana in the plate and second, a House Corvina italian red in the... More

No reservations so your options are to go early before the rush or be prepared to wait for a table. The restaurant is busy, noisy, family friendly. You can dress up or be casual. The food is excellent, portions generous, extensive menu and wine menu. There were 5 of us celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. Luckily we arrived just in time to... Enjoyed a business meal here. Although it was about $92 for the two of us, it was worth it. The food is excellent. The staff is very friendly. One of the nicer places to eat in Pismo. More an adult atmosphere, but I did see a few kids. I recommend giving it a try. If you like Italian food, you... More

Visiting Pismo for a "getaway" weekend, this restaurant was recommended by our hotel staff as the Italian place. Arrived to a busycrowd and were told 20 minutes for our table. Went to the bar for a drink and we were seated within the timeframe. Excellent service (Dustin) and reallygood rustic italian food. Great specials! And the derserts are to die... More
