Description: Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.

Highly recommend this restaurant. The dinner prices are a little steep for me but the lunch prices are in my range. LOVE THIS PLACE!

I was in town for one evening and my friends and I were wow'd by this restaurant. We split the gnocchi appetizer, pizzas and salad. The food was amazing and accompanied by great service!

Had a bottle of wine and spagetti. The place was packed but only waited about 10 mins for a seat. Had quite a few kids in there and the noise would not be good for a hard of hearing person. The food was quite delicious.

We stopped at this place by accident, on our way to Carmel CA. The staff accommodated our large party of 8 adults and 2 children pretty fast... needless to say food was great. Pizza is made in a Brick oven, salads are real fresh and well dressed. ITS ALWAYS GREAT TO GET GREAT FOOD AND SERVICES WHEN U DONT EXPECT... More

Went with a group of 8 of us and we each ordered something different. Everyone loved what they ordered! The service was excellent and we had a great table on the outdoor patio. The waiter new the menu inside and out and answered all of our questions. It's a little pricey but well worth it for a special occasion!

Where do I start - I don't know what it is about some small towns where restaurants that would basically be the equivalent of a Bucca de Beppo somehow get rave reviews. Anyway the reviews on Yelp suckered us in. Given the really long wait (they dont take reservations) we ordered the food to go. So the first (and only)... More

There are lots of Italian restaurants and then...there is Giuseppe's in Pismo Beach! There waiter staff actually enjoys waiting on you. Am there 25 plus times a year and never had a meal that wasn't something special. Gnocci(potato dumplings) is one of my favorites. Not the one on the menu that's made in a cream sauce but the one they... More

Pismo as a town appears to have two sides, the roads nearest the beach ( at the pier ) aren't served by the best looking resturants, bars or multiple tattoo parlours, but, step bak a block and you're transported to price street. Lined with sandwich bars during the day and a wide choice of restaurants in the evening. Guise peps... More

If you stop on US1, this is probably the best Italian place you can go to. Every course is a dream. The special pizzas are worth asking what is recommended. For dessert, the Cannoli are as good as those I had in Italy. On top, service is A+. The kind of service you tip 20%, because they are worth it.

The restaurant was very busy but they managed to get the 5 of us seated in 10 mins. JT our server was just exceptional, the best on our two week holiday, informally attentive making us feel relaxed and special in equal measure. The food is great Italian fare, we had a good mix between the 5 of us and it... More
