Two entwined, but not fused, cuisines.

Memorable were the sashimi and oyster flan appetizer (quite pleasing), dashi broth with quennelle, venison medallions, duck breast with foie gras, and miso marinated Chilean sea bass. The last two were particularly enjoyable. Whether or not the goal was to harmonize French and Japanese cuisines... read more

Memorable were the sashimi and oyster flan appetizer (quite pleasing), dashi broth with quennelle, venison medallions, duck breast with foie gras, and miso marinated Chilean sea bass. The last two were particularly enjoyable. Whether or not the goal was to harmonize French and Japanese cuisines, each dish felt pretty distinctly one or the other, with the "minor" cuisine providing accents.... More

I took my wife here and proposed to her a couple of years ago. I decided to take her for our wedding anniversary this year and was amazed when the Maitre D' recognised us. Chef Akira came out and greeted us, all in all a very special evening. We tried the Taster Menu, with paired wines. The range of flavours,... More

We have been to Paris/Europe nine times, and this is as fine an example of French cooking/presentation..together with an Asian flair, as we have ever had. Wonderful atmosphere, exemplary service, a great menu, and notable wine list. We were not disappointed and Maison Akira lived up to its reputation!

We were in Pasadena for a business conference on our 40th Wedding Anniversary. A Sunday evening, romantic French dinner, wonderful atmosphere, short walk from our hotel so the Tasting Menu with matching wines was perfect. Amazing Apple Tart dessert for him and the Chocolate Souffle with congratulations written in chocolate on the platter for me - so special. Just as... More

Be warned, this place is expensive, but the ambience and service are commensurate with the price. As the name indicates, this is fine dining, with a Japanese tint. Many of the entrees offer, for a lesser price, a smaller portion, but those 'small' plates are....very small. The food we had, was very well prepared, attractively presented, but, I would be... We have been to Maison Akira a few times over the years, never disappointed, but never bowled over until our first tasting menu (with wine pairing)! Wow! We've had some spectacular tasting menus elsewhere, from worked-famous Arzak in San Sebastian Spain to Water Grill in LA and many between (including the Royce when it still had it's Michelin Star); all... The dining room is very nice - a traditional nice restaurant style. The food choices were quite nice. Two of us tried the chef's Kaiseki menu. That was expensive and, while very delicious, did not measure up to its name (which, to us, means food as art as well as for the palate), as the presentations were no more special... More

Last week, my wife and I returned to Maison Akira for the first time in nearly five years. Our first meal there was in the fall of 2010 -- and in the years since we had thought often about this fine French restaurant, led by a masterful Japanese chef, Akira Hirose. What kept us away was 3000 miles of geographic... More

The food was fabulous and the service was impeccable. This was our first time here and definitely won't be our last. The fusion of our two favorite cuisines French and Japanese make for a tasty and innovative menu. Cannot wait to return.
