FOOD: I wasn't terribly impressed by the dishes here. The lone standout was the Peking duck, which was very tasty. The other dishes that we tried (shu mai, pot stickers, shrimp dumplings, honey beef, Shanghai crab, Maine lobster) were rather ho-hum. The mediocre food did not surprise me, considering that Tai Pan appears to be one of those Chinese restaurants... More

We ordered the meal for 10 people listed on the menu. From chicken on a lettuce wrap, soup, tea, crab items, lobster, duck, whole fish and I can't remember what else. The seafood was fresh and not smelly, service was great. Be warned that this will provide enough food for probably 15 normal eaters. Great food and no rush to... More

We've eaten here numerous times, and the food is consistently good. A bit pricey, but you can count on really good Chinese food. Service is excellent; staff are friendly and responsive. Food presentation is quite nice, and we're always pleased with our meal. The spareribs and Peking duck are particularly yummy.

Great place for lunch in central Palo Alto with 2-hours of free parking. The dim sum menu offers authentic Hong Kong dishes according to my Hong Kong friends. Reservations by Open Table is accepted. Beautiful interior decor and not crowded. Honey baked sea bass (main menu) just melts in your mouth. Sponge cake and egg tart desserts were excellent.

First of all, let me just say this: Do not expect to find authentic ethnic food in places like Palo Alto downtown where rich native Bay Area residents live/work. Seriously. Set your expectation right. It's like looking for authentic/real French restaurants in Chinatown. Seriously. Just don't. With that out of the way, I think Tai Pan is really a great... More

Where to begin? Portion sizes are smaller than at other dim sum restaurants I have eaten at in the past, for the same dishes. The prices are quite high. High prices and small portions mean that the bill for getting enough to eat is going to be way out of line. And the food is really bad--way too much salt... More

Restaurant is elegant with large porcelain sculptures and other artwork. Private rooms are available. Delicious, well-prepared food, priced accordingly.

I'm Cantonese and I thought Tai Pan was very good. Have eaten there 4 times and each time we enjoyed the food. The restaurant's decor is very nice which makes it a good place for a special occasion.

I am always a little dissappointed at dining in a Chinese restaurant because of the way they are decorated....whether expensively, or ordinary. Everyone says it's the FOOD! But I think it is also the surroundings. Tai Pan is my choice for the most beautiful with great food. The decor is modern understated elegance...just my style. AND, the food is excellent;... More

We had a large group booked in the private room. The food kept flowing smoothly. The staff was very knowledgeable regarding the wines and helped us pair the wines with the food. The food was excellent...delicious...flavorful with a large variety. The servers were very good at clearing the table of used dishes. Overall an excellent experience!
