yes, i agree with other reviews that it's upscale and it's overpriced. think about it, it's palo alto and people there really don't mind spending a lot to get good food and good environment. btw, the service did not match the "upscale" standard, at least not the american nor the hong kong standard i expect. however, if you live in... This Chinese restaurant is so comfortable to come to. Its like having dinner in an elegant home....comfortable seating, tablecloths, good service. Food is very good here - freshly made - and nice portions for the group you are with. Service is done with a friendly graceful style. It is quiet enough for a nice dinner out - although many people... More

I have been a frequent customer at Tai Pan since 2007. Tai Pan has never disappointed me. I have also taken numerous groups of family members, friends, and business clients from Hong Kong and China to Tai Pan, all of them gave two thumbs up to the food at Tai Pan. Many of my clients were amazed by the availability... More

These folks have deluded themselves to believe that they can raise prices on ordinary skimpy dishes. Beef is hard to find, as is chicken in their dishes. Their bowl of rice is the tiniest I have ever seen. Overpriced wine in tiny pours. These guys must be desperate. Corkage is $20 and 18.5% tip is charged on the corkage for... More

Had lunch here with a party of four for dim sum. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table despite having a reservation – a bit annoying. It is a busy and popular place. Décor is Asian and quite pleasant. The dim sum was very good but a bit pricy – cost was $38 per person with no... More

FOOD: I wasn't terribly impressed by the dishes here. The lone standout was the Peking duck, which was very tasty. The other dishes that we tried (shu mai, pot stickers, shrimp dumplings, honey beef, Shanghai crab, Maine lobster) were rather ho-hum. The mediocre food did not surprise me, considering that Tai Pan appears to be one of those Chinese restaurants... More

We ordered the meal for 10 people listed on the menu. From chicken on a lettuce wrap, soup, tea, crab items, lobster, duck, whole fish and I can't remember what else. The seafood was fresh and not smelly, service was great. Be warned that this will provide enough food for probably 15 normal eaters. Great food and no rush to... More

We've eaten here numerous times, and the food is consistently good. A bit pricey, but you can count on really good Chinese food. Service is excellent; staff are friendly and responsive. Food presentation is quite nice, and we're always pleased with our meal. The spareribs and Peking duck are particularly yummy.

Great place for lunch in central Palo Alto with 2-hours of free parking. The dim sum menu offers authentic Hong Kong dishes according to my Hong Kong friends. Reservations by Open Table is accepted. Beautiful interior decor and not crowded. Honey baked sea bass (main menu) just melts in your mouth. Sponge cake and egg tart desserts were excellent.

First of all, let me just say this: Do not expect to find authentic ethnic food in places like Palo Alto downtown where rich native Bay Area residents live/work. Seriously. Set your expectation right. It's like looking for authentic/real French restaurants in Chinatown. Seriously. Just don't. With that out of the way, I think Tai Pan is really a great... More
