A trusted "New" Old Friend

St. Michael's Alley has been around seemingly forever in Palo Alto. It's always served good food with friendly, knowledgable wait staff; but the new location on Homer simply enhances the dining experience in many ways. You feel like you're eating in someone's dining room. Most recently we... read more

St. Michael's Alley has been around seemingly forever in Palo Alto. It's always served good food with friendly, knowledgable wait staff; but the new location on Homer simply enhances the dining experience in many ways. You feel like you're eating in someone's dining room. Most recently we stopped in without a reservation and sat at a "high-boy" table at the... More

It feels like entering in a home with its different rooms, curtains and decoration. The eggplant appetizer was delicious and the serving of mahi- mani on coconut risotto was interesting and tasty. Shredded Brussels sprouts was an innovative idea but the taste was not strong enough for us. Good and very friendly service. A good value for a nice dinner... More

First I'll say, I was only there once for a lunch, and simply had the nicoise salad--while tasty, I had expected nicoise olives, not Kalamatas. But having been there once, I don't feel I can fairly rate the food. However, everyone at our table was pleased with their food. We were very disappointed in the service--thus only the average rating.... More

The first thing you notice on entering St Michael's Alley is how they have managed to get the decor, ambiance, acoustics, service and overall feel of the dining areas absolutely spot on. Then you open up the menu and that initial punch of excitement, anticipation and feelings of 'this dining experience could be one of the best I've had in... More

We had a party of nine and everyone raved about the experience. The service was friendly and the venue is cozy. I love the outdoor patio although we ate inside due to our party size. I had the duck which was literally five star. Other dishes at the table included halibut, filet, scallops, tuna, and mushroom cakes. Every single dish... More

I like the vibe; bistro classic and also a little France meets Berkeley. But the food is average and can't hold up to being beyond that. Nothing was all that tasty. Wine pricey and so-so. Waitstaff is professional, perhaps a little frazzled at times, and reading from a prepared cheat sheet about the specials seems awkward and amateurish. I think... More

The food is wonderful, the location fantastic (just a little off the beaten path and away from the craziness of downtown, but you can walk there if you want), but the best thing about St. Mikes is the atmosphere and ambience. It's like Cheers - warm and friendly, people really do get to know your name. This is why you... More

The restaurant is away from the main shops and restaurants but only a short walk from hotels. The service was excellent and efficient as well as friendly. We enjoyed our starters but not so much our main fish dish of the day which we felt was rather over flavoured for halibut. The wine list is good value and sensible as... More

On the spur of the moment we found ourselves in Palo Alto with lost reservations at another (#1 rated in Trip Advisor for Palo Alto) restaurant and no table available until too late. We read reviews and saw St Michael's, called and headed right over for an early dinner. Very impressed. Beautifully crafted rooms, very clubby and top drawer design... More
