A WONDERFUL dinner

The cozy ambiance, great service, and delicious food made for a great dining experience. The mussels were large, plump, and flavorful and my husband's fish special was so good he ate every last bit. First time eating here and it definitely won't be the last.

A great place if you want to have a french style meal. We went for dinner. The food was excellent and the service by the owner/manager was very good too. And it combines very well the ambiance of a formal restaurant with the relaxed spirit of the area.

When I think of brunch in Palo Alto, it's Pastis, Mayfield Cafe, Cafe Brioche, and so many others. Pastis is the perfect place to sit down while browsing the Farmer's market, the music in the background, and all the chatter... But. Somehow, I've eaten there many times, and it doesn't quite cross over into 'must visit again' for me. Perhaps... More

Although I am not a regular at Pastis, I have eaten there with a friend from time to time. In the past, both the food and service were excellent. Not so, earlier this month. Our waiter seemed disinterested. Our wine was served in glasses with noticeable lip prints on them; the food was just okay.

I'm french and it is an excellent french restaurant, from the reservation to the service, good people, delicious food. I picked the flank steak ordered rear - bleu - and it was perfectly prepared. And fine selection of wine! I will come back, thanks to the French lady from south of Toulouse for the welcome and the the free glass... More

A friend has recommended Pastis to me after learning that I loved mussels. I can't thank my friend enough. The mussels in white wine are amazing!!! The mussels were big and fresh, and the broth was scrumptious. Pair it with great bread and a glass of white wine, and my dinner was complete. Our waiter was wonderful. He made great... More

After reading the reviews I felt comfortable going here....big error. The escargots were poorly flavored: one of 6 was empty. The rib eye steak was tough, which didn't matter much since it was less than 1/4 " thick..and served raw, rather than medium rare as ordered. My partner had the coq au vin.....a measly piece of chicken, with cold mashed... More

Last night we found this lively French bistro quite by accident. It has a small but friendly bar and outdoor seating on the sidewalk. The food wasn't fancy but it was delicious. We will definitely go back to Pastis on our next trip to Palo Alto.

Great bistro, with usual menu and ever-changing specials. Warm service. Terrific food. Good wine. Multiple times a month and we never get tired of Pastis!

The mussels are delicious, as is the chicken liver salad. But some of the entrees are disappointing. The last time I was there I had a fish dish, and the fish was terribly dry. Another time I had duck with mustard sauce, which wasn't very good at all. The owner is a congenial guy, and the other waiters are polite.
