Excellent French cuisine

This was our fourth visit to Bon Vivant. We brought our own bottle of wine with a corkage fee of $25, a little higher than most restaurants around here. Appetizers were the combination seared and pate foie gras with poached pear (5 stars) and beef tartare (2 stars, a little too bland, and with an... read more

I love octopus, but almost always find it too rubbery to enjoy. Not so at Bon Vivant: it was just right and was surprising cool to look at on the plate. Beyond that, I love the duck combination they serve - "duck two ways" I think it is called, and the wine list seemed very good (I'm not an expert,... More

Located in the heart of the Palo Alto this is a great restaurant to go to for many different occasions. Whether you want to dine outside, sit in the ambient atmosphere of the inside or if you just want to have a drink by the bar this is the place to be. From excellent hand picked bottles on the wine... Having read some of the excellent reviews here we were really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. I wonder if it was the chef's night off. There were only 5 occupied tables at 8.00 pm so the restaurant was very quiet, yet we heard the server turn a couple away saying it was fully booked!... More

Recently my wife and I had dinner at Bon Vivant Cafe in Palo Alto. It was our second dining experience there in the last few months, and the food and the service were great both times. My wife had the Salmon Fillet and I had the Tournedos Rossini--both were excellently prepared and cooked to perfection. Don't be fooled by the... More

Beef Stroganoff a la Rus was to die for. So was Marie Antoinette dessert. It is hard to surprise me with a dessert, but they did it. Very nice place overall. Definitely worth multiple trips.

I'd highly recommend a meal at Bon Vivant if you're into French cuisine. A great selection of wines and interesting menu. The rabbit, foie gras, scallops and filet mignon are a must try. The restaurant by itself is off University Ave, and hence conveniently located. Has a very cozy feel.

With busy work schedules it can be tough for my wife and I to get out and gave a relaxing date night. While the restaurant is pricy, it is well worth it. Great wine list, the beef tartar was delicious, and both our entrées were well balanced with flavor.

i was amazed when looking for a reservation last minute on a Friday night that one was available at the time I wanted. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived and we were seated at a small table next to the window. The dining room was quite nice, but the style of cooking was 'old school'. I started with... Had a great meal here. French bistro dishes that were excellent - once we got them. Very slow and inattentive despite there being few people in the restaurant.
