Description: what makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! Ours is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day we opened. Modern gas and electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed – over 800 degrees – to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that our oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in Palm Springs!the space. The challenge? How do you build distinctive restaurants in unique urban spaces? Our original location in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC was a Chinese grocery in a structure 15 feet wide and three stories tall. Our newest location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington was a 90 year old vending machine warehouse. matchbox Palm Springs was opened in 2005 in a second floor location with spectacular views of Mt St. Jacinto and Palm Canyon Drive. Our partnership group, with backgrounds in restaurant operations and construction simply have a great time designing and building all of our projects!

We went for lunch. The service is great. We had a salad each and shared a pizza. The salads are fresh and tasty. The pizza was very very greasy but to be expected with pepperoni as the topping. Overall, it's a good place for pizza and drinks.

Overall, this restaurant really delivers! We arrived a little later in the evening, towards closing, and they accommodated us quite nicely. We had their sandwiches and salads and both were very delicious. They offer a good selection in drinks and everything we had was very good! Also, save room for dessert. The bread pudding is fantastic, if you like this... More

This is a great place to go and sit above the crowds and have a few drinks and enjoy Happy Hour. Prices are very reasonable and the food is great. I recommend the mini slider's!

Great view tables, balconies over the street (second story) with heaters for that cool evening. Menue is not extensive, but sufficient. Love this place on a Thursday night when Street Fest is on, great for people watching and being in the middle of everything.

We try to go here whenever in Palm Springs. It is on the second floor of a court yard with great views of the street activity. The food is also very good yet basic, Pizza and other Casual food. If you go for happy hour, wine is $5 a glass. We had Bruschetta, Pear Salad, and Bistro Burger. All were... More

Had a late weekend lunch here. The thin crust pizza was just ok-nothing extraordinary and the house salad was ok with a ton of lettuce and not much else. The restaurant is on the second story of a downtown building-nice view of the mountains if you sit in the back. Service was fine but many other good places to have... More

There were 6 of us and we all ordered something different and were all impressed. The service was excellent.

Came here to celebrate our son's birthday. We chose this based on the good/very good reviews... and I'm confused as to why there are so many 4 and 5 stars. I will preface by saying that we did not order the pizza. The entire menu is overpriced. Expensive appetizers that are not at all memorable. Our server raved about the... More

I had heard a lot of good things about Matchbox; but unfortunately, the food and service didn't live up to all the hype. The ambiance was pleasant, and there were great views of the street, but overall, Matchbox was merely an average restaurant with above average prices.

Wonderful thin crust pizza! Great spot to "people watch". Dined here a few times (lunch, dinner, happy hour). Service was consistently good, as was the food!
