Description: what makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! Ours is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day we opened. Modern gas and electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed – over 800 degrees – to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that our oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in Palm Springs!the space. The challenge? How do you build distinctive restaurants in unique urban spaces? Our original location in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC was a Chinese grocery in a structure 15 feet wide and three stories tall. Our newest location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington was a 90 year old vending machine warehouse. matchbox Palm Springs was opened in 2005 in a second floor location with spectacular views of Mt St. Jacinto and Palm Canyon Drive. Our partnership group, with backgrounds in restaurant operations and construction simply have a great time designing and building all of our projects!

I joined two local friends for lunch at the Matchbox. We appreciated the friendly staff and we enjoyed our second story view of the tourists bustling through the small commercial plaza. Both outdoor covered seating on a balcony and indoor seating, plus a full-service bar. The bartender fixed me a delicious Margarita! ...and I enjoyed my spinach salad. My friends... More

First time visiting PS and found this place via our hotel's tourist brochure. Went for the early bird small plates specials and they were a really suprising treat and great value. There was a good selection of beers and wine to keep us interested and happy. Service was also courteous, helpful and efficient. We had such a good time we... More

We like Matchbox, we go every time we are in Palm Sprinfs. I would say it's the greatest but it's good enough that we always return. Pizza is good, if you can get a table that is on a private balcony then do it, very cool when the street fair is on (Thursday)

We arrived on a busy evening and walked up and down the strip trying to decide where to go. When we walked up the stairs to look at the menu and saw there was not a single table available, we decided it must be good and we would wait. The hostess found us a table for two with our own... More

Matchbox restaurant was recommended in the hotel brochure and did not disappoint. We all had pizza and it was the tastiest we'd had in a long time. We were unfamiliar with the local beers so our waitress brought a small glass of a couple for us to try. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I recently enjoyed my first visit to Matchbox, located upstairs and tucked back from the street...I actually walked past the entrance on my first pass. However, I was glad I was persistent and made my way up to the restaurant. I ordered a "simple" salad that was fresh, and pleasantly plated. There was a good selection of local craft beers... More

The waitress was very friendly but stretched thin. She could have used some help from the other staff that was just walking/standing around. We went without water as they passed our table and the order was delivered incorrect and it took way to long for salad as well as waiting for the corrected order to arrive only to arrive one... My husband and I split a large pizza with some happy hour beers. Draft beer selection was very good, a nice variety of local brews, not the national brands you can get anywhere. The pizza was thin crust and very tasty. Great location to people watch too if you score a table toward the street.

We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Had some Bloody Marys, chopped salad, and Chicken Pesto pizza. All were excellent. Nice view of the street vibe in PS. Greta our server was friendly and efficient. We would recommend this place to anyone.
