Description: what makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! Ours is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day we opened. Modern gas and electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed – over 800 degrees – to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that our oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in Palm Springs!the space. The challenge? How do you build distinctive restaurants in unique urban spaces? Our original location in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC was a Chinese grocery in a structure 15 feet wide and three stories tall. Our newest location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington was a 90 year old vending machine warehouse. matchbox Palm Springs was opened in 2005 in a second floor location with spectacular views of Mt St. Jacinto and Palm Canyon Drive. Our partnership group, with backgrounds in restaurant operations and construction simply have a great time designing and building all of our projects!

On our first night in Palm Springs my wife and I were looking for a light meal and a nice atmosphere. We found both at Matchbox and received great service from our waiter Errol. We both enjoyed drinks to start and shared a chef special Caesar salad - probably not big enough to truly share but our meal portions were... More

This is one of the best places for Happy Hour in downtown Palm Springs. The food, especially pizza, is fantastic and the service very friendly. I strongly recommend trying the appetizers, especially sushi rolls.

Great place on 2nd story. Extensive menu. They're famous for their pizza and some really great dishes. I had the salmon over cheese grit and they were sinfully delicious! The bar area is great for romance and on cool evening, there's a fire in long bar overlooking the downtown. Also "individual table balcony" is great, too.

Service was good, but the food was a littler over priced for what is was. If you go during happy hour you would be better off.

Everything was delicious and service was excellent. Turned out the waiter was the trainee but we were impressed with our service. Fresh hot Bread was requested and brought at no charge. The apple/pear salad, roasted chicken, and pork chops were all prepared and served hot and creatively presented. Window seat allowed us to view the street and people.

Service was nothing great. Pizza is mediocre. Staff didn't seem to care what was going on at all. Not the best restaurant in Palm Springs.

My boyfriend found this place on Yelp for my birthday. The service was so incredibly slow. So slow that we saw two table get sat, wait too long to even be greeted and get up and leave. We were extremely patient but our patience was worn a little thin by the end of the night. No one ever acknowledged the... More

While the Matchbox was originally known as a pizzaa place, their chef has taken "dining" to new heights with the salmon on a a bed of spinach then add the pretzel-shaped bread and herbed butter and it will leave you asking "I wonder what the king is eating tonight?" Because you know it cannot be better than what you just... More

We chose a table which had the most spritzers directed on us. This was like sitting under a huge Evian spray bottle, so relaxing! The food and service was great, espcecially a super friendly US/Norwegian waitress.

The location is perfect in the center of town. We had a balcony table which was perfect for people watching and just enjoying a meal. I suggest making reservations for good seating. We only had 1 issue, the server had too many tables, one was a large group so he was rushing around and made it hard to get things... More
