Description: what makes a great pizza? It starts with a great oven! Ours is an authentic wood- fired masonry oven where the fire has burned constantly since the day we opened. Modern gas and electric ovens cannot produce the intense heat needed – over 800 degrees – to achieve the crispy, smoky crust that our oven provides. With dough made fresh daily in-house, our goal is to make the best pizza in Palm Springs!the space. The challenge? How do you build distinctive restaurants in unique urban spaces? Our original location in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC was a Chinese grocery in a structure 15 feet wide and three stories tall. Our newest location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington was a 90 year old vending machine warehouse. matchbox Palm Springs was opened in 2005 in a second floor location with spectacular views of Mt St. Jacinto and Palm Canyon Drive. Our partnership group, with backgrounds in restaurant operations and construction simply have a great time designing and building all of our projects!

Matchbox promises a lot to distract you from the sub par dining experience. The food was greasy and over priced, it definitely didn't make a good impression.

We came by Matchbox in the central area of downtown Palm Springs and had a really good dinner. The service was very good and would recommend.

Matchbox has remained a favorite dining spot & point-center position for people-watching. It is upstairs in the center-of-town, aloft the Sonny Bono Monument. All their Italian inspired dishes - wood-fired thin-crusted pizzas; savory salads ( sampling Apple/Pear; Steak & Wedge; & Burrata & Roasted Tomato) are delicious. Their Porcini-rubbed Rib Eye is a good steak at a good price ($29).... More

Very nice upstairs location. Sit at the bar with the fire line. Excellent shrimp and grits. Good atmosphere and happy hour specials.

Love this place, overlooks main street on one side and the mountains on other side. Balcony seating, private table, hanging above all that is going on the main drag. Food and service is very good, prices moderate.

Attend the street fair every Thursday night and Matchbox is one of my regular stops. The Fire & Smoke pizza is a little spicy - but provides a unique flavor I love every time. Also, they offer a dry Rose wine that is refreshing during the HOT summer months. The service is not consistent. I've had great service and very... More

The service in they restaurant has a lot to improve. The staff here didn´t seem to care for their clients. Our waiter was not bad, but just forgot one dish we order as an appetizer for the table and then we have to had the appetizer after our main dishes. It came out as delicious. The other dishes were good.... More

Last week when we were staying in Palm Springs my wife and I decided to go to happy hour to one of our favorite local restaurants, matchbox. Since I previously reviewed matchbox for the dinner menu this review only deals with the cocktail lounge and happy hour. In the past we've had great cocktails at matchbox the bloody Mary and... More

On our first night in Palm Springs my wife and I were looking for a light meal and a nice atmosphere. We found both at Matchbox and received great service from our waiter Errol. We both enjoyed drinks to start and shared a chef special Caesar salad - probably not big enough to truly share but our meal portions were... More

This is one of the best places for Happy Hour in downtown Palm Springs. The food, especially pizza, is fantastic and the service very friendly. I strongly recommend trying the appetizers, especially sushi rolls.
