A Pleasant Surprise

As a part-time resident (6 months per year) of Palm Springs, I have walked passed Kalura Trattoria on numerous occasions. The restaurant is located in the heart of the busy touristy downtown main street. For the past few years, I would not consider eating at Kalura because it appeared to be a... read more

We were excited to try this spot. We have been coming to Palm Springs for a few years and had this on our list of restraunts to try. We made a reservation on a Wednesday night and were seated promptly at our requested time. The server we got was not at all friendly. We asked three times if she could... More

We made reservations to sit outside on a very busy Saturday night. We were 4 and everyone admitted that their food choice was amazing. I have chicken cacciotore, my husband had veal scallopini, friends had pizza luganega and seafood (shrimp, lobster and scallop) pasta. Once we ordered, food came out quite quickly, waiters ever present, friendly and efficient. Would definitely... More

Kalura is located smack-dab in the busiest tourist corridor of downtown Palm Springs, and waits can be long in peak season. But this isn't the usual tourist grub. It's authentic Italian cuisine, made by Italians. Many of the pastas are manufactured in-house, and the risotto here is the best in the valley. An excellent wine list offers the ideal complement... If you know good Italian food and appreciate it, then don't go there. It's obvious this place is catering to the passing tourist. The place has the look and ambiance but that's where it ends. It's unfortunate because the owners are three native Italians, but somehow they have figured out that they don't need to sell authenticity to the tourists... More

my two daughters and myself got the mimosas and we shared two wonderful dishes. We did not want to carry around leftovers (which always happens) so the two dishes were more than enough for three people to share.

Wanted outdoor dining, with Wine. We like Italian food so this met our requirements. We ate early enough so we were able to have outdoor seating. Good Chianti wine and food was a good quality. Good place for evening dining especially if you can get outdoor dining. Disclaimer: We spent our 5 days in Palm Spring and only wanted to... More

On an annual visit to Palm Springs I try to visit Kalura for dinner since we have always had great food and service. This year a group of 7 went for dinner and had a poor experience. One couple ordered a salad to split and I had ordered my own salad. Two salads came out and the waiter didn't have... More

extra busy crowd on Thursday nights, reservations a good idea, no res but they found us a table for two, just had 2 appetizers, minestrone soup ($7.95) and caesar salad-large ($10.95), nice flavour for each, free bread with olive oil included

... but not spectacular. Food and wine are Italian, and we very much enjoyed our lunch. Service was friendly and efficient. But we did not feel the urge to go back.
