Superior Schnitzel but lacking Old World Charm

Based on reviews by locals, we drove from one end of the valley to the other to experience wiener schnitzel listed on "1000 meals to eat before you die." The chef credit's his grandmother for the recipe, and it did not disappoint! The meat with lean, juicy, and tender; the breading had a perfect... read more

This is an upscale restaurant downtown. Unfortunately, they did not have any vegetarian specials so I ended up having mushroom soup (very unique and tasty but not especially filling) and a salad. My husband had salmon. He liked his salmon. We shared some chocolate mousse for dessert - it was delicious but a very small portion. We liked this restaurant... More

This is touted as one of the best restaurants in Palm Springs. At our last two visits we were seated in the less desirable bar area even after having requested expressly for seating in the main dining area. The food is good but the service is not up to par. There is better value in the area than this over-rated... More

Came to Palm Springs to visit my friends. Her husband is European and suggested we try this restaurant. To my surprise it was very delicious. We shared an appetizer of escargot in garlic butter. Yummy! For the main dish we all had the Wiener schnitzel.

We loved the food at this restaurant! From the basil spread for the bread to the Wiener schnitzel and the French fries, everything was excellent. Best of all was their version of macaroni and cheese - it's hard to describe but take my word for it that it is the best! The Wiener schnitzel is served with a cucumber concoction,... More

My wife and I had occasion to take a friend here for a special birthday dinner on Jan. 2, 2016. This was our first visit. From the warm, gracious greeting we knew this would be a special dinner. The staff could not have been more accommodating, professional, and genuinely interested in making our evening enjoyable. Let me tell you, Johannes... More

I am known for my honest reviews so here goes - we were initially seated at a table in the back room. There were two other parties there were extremely loud. So loud our waiter had to shout to tell us the specials and asked the other guests to quiet down. Needless to say I asked the host to move... More

Love this restaurant and make sure to come when we are in town. Schnitzel (including Chicken Wiener) is amazing. A little disappointed that the spaetzle that came with the wiener was plain and not the cheesy variety offered on the app menu. I would've paid the full price for it had I understood it was going to be different. The... More

Everything is fabulous here! We were off season, so we could get a table,..all the other times I've been to PS its a heck of wait, or reservations in advance. During our stay we tried many restaurants, and ended up dining at Johannes 3 nights,...food dreams are made of! Mushroom soup, cauliflower soup,..the best we had ever had,....lamb,...rarely available, but... More

If you are in Palm Springs, don't miss Johannes restaurant. We sat in the front room (make reservations). The service was exceptional, the food off the chart. We can't wait to go back!
