I Was Warned

While looking for fresh bread I was told this was the place to go and to go early. I was also warned that I would know when I was getting close by the smell; I hope heaven smells this good. As soon as you get out of the car the smell of baked goods and butter is intoxicating. Can you... read more

Pavel's has to die-for pastries and breads. Their sandwiches are most delicious. The owners are most gracious and helpful.

Fresh pastries and bread at a very reasonable price. Limited seating and the favorites sell out quickly. Got a huge chocolate croissant (soft chocolate filling), bear claw and berry and creme cheese Danish for a total of $11. Drove to Lover's Point to enjoyed them at the waterfront. Pavel's started selling sandwiches a couple of months ago. We later purchased... More

I have never had anything but exceptional morsels from Pavel's. Expect a line out the door and possible disappointment when your favorites are sold out, but realize that everything is made fresh every day to exacting perfection! From the hearty Farmer's Brotchen (small loaf of bread baked with potatoes and poached egg inside) to the white and black biscotti or... More

I may have fallen head-over-heels for their giant cinnamon roll (WOW!), but I'll be coming back for their breads. They've got some wonderful fresh-baked selections that you can just take with you, or they will make up a terrific sandwich to go. There aren't many seats inside, but there are a few on the sidewalk that are great for people... More

Lived in Monterey for a while, and so glad I discovered this place. Everything is delicious as well as cheap. Also has a cute bakery atmosphere which is fun.

Long lines spill out onto Forest Avenue on the weekends...getting to Pavel's early is a MUST. They close once they sell out (and they always sell out!) Prices have gone up recently but Pavel's remains an excellent value and the best chocolate croissant to be had. If you close you eyes and breath in the most amazing smells, one could... More

For many years I ran a California company for a group of Norwegian families. During that time, my wife and I would make an annual pilgrimage to Norway. While in Norway, we both learned to appreciate (and envy) the multi-grain, seeded bread, you could get in any restaurant or supermarket there. Over the years we have tried many breads in... More
