Best meal in USA so far

We are from London and have been in USA for 2 weeks. In New York, San Francisco and Cambria so far. Has been hard to find good food (not fast food) of a reasonable quality for a reasonable price. But this place manages just that. Mainly fish menu. I had sand dabs. And shared a cheesecake for... read more

Fishermans platter and cioppino full of local fresh seafood. Great, almost too fast, service. Live dungenous tank, small place, locals.

This was by far my favorite place I ate at in the Monterey area. The clam chowder in bread bowl with garlic cheese toast was to die for! I also had a fresh green salad with what tasted like homemade blue cheese dressing. Yum! The service was great as well! Can't wait to go back!

A rare find - an unpretentious restaurant complete with crayons to draw your masterpiece on the paper table-top, that also offers friendly service and a seafood/pasta menu to please every taste. I had the Scallops Provencale which were perfectly cooked. In most places the vegetables are so-so, but their squash was so delicious that I would have enjoyed another serving.... More

When we go to the ocean for a vacation, we love to get seafood. I came across a review for this place and most of the reviews were pretty good. We love chowder and saw that they had it in the bread bowls for like $9 and $2 more if you ask for the lid to have cheese grilled on... More

Delicious and reminiscent of my days in San Francisco. The best chowder I've had in Monterey and of course served in a classic sourdough bread bowl. You can opt for the lid to be made into a cheesy garlic bread for an extra fee. Great for dipping. The decor is really Spartan. I took the soup to go and it... More

Not fancy, but very good. Chowder among the best around. And it is always reliable. Caters to everyone.

Eating--not dining--at Vivolo's Chowder House was a disappointment for my friends and me. This restaurant prides itself on purveying its "Vivolo's New England Chowder." I see why the word "calm" is missing in describing this entrée in the menu, for few of them are found in the chowder. This chowder's taste appeal was better than average, although there were a... Dined here with friends. A simple but authentic place providing very good food at a reasonable cost. It is not a formal place and we felt very relaxed and enjoyed the food. Perfect for socialising over food, with a relaxed service.
