A great find at great prices

Delicious and reminiscent of my days in San Francisco. The best chowder I've had in Monterey and of course served in a classic sourdough bread bowl. You can opt for the lid to be made into a cheesy garlic bread for an extra fee. Great for dipping. The decor is really Spartan. I took the soup to go and it... More

Not fancy, but very good. Chowder among the best around. And it is always reliable. Caters to everyone.

Eating--not dining--at Vivolo's Chowder House was a disappointment for my friends and me. This restaurant prides itself on purveying its "Vivolo's New England Chowder." I see why the word "calm" is missing in describing this entrée in the menu, for few of them are found in the chowder. This chowder's taste appeal was better than average, although there were a... Dined here with friends. A simple but authentic place providing very good food at a reasonable cost. It is not a formal place and we felt very relaxed and enjoyed the food. Perfect for socialising over food, with a relaxed service.

One spouse was under the weather; so we got enough Chowder, for two, and two wonderful cheesey sourdough bread bowls, and brought them back to our cottage... We have been to the restaurant before... The atmosphere is casual, the service is attentive, and the food is always fantastic...

We have driven by this restaurant for years but decided just recently to try it. We found the chowder to be among the top two we've had in the area but found the calamari very average at best. Next time, we'll stick to the larger bowl of chowder.

Small spot for great chowder. We recommend the sourdough chowder bowl with a cheesy garlic lid. Service was good. They were out of a few items we wished to order, but in the end they delivered. Make sure to leave room for delicious cheesecake or get one to share.

My husband and I go to this restaurant every time we go to Pacific Grove. You must have the bread bowl with the chowder. It is delish. They cook the top of the bread bowl with garlic, cheese and pure deliciousness. We always get these bread bowls to go, take them down to the beach and chow down. I've also... More

We have eaten here several times, and we love the food, the great service, and the casual ambiance. They really try to take good care of you, and even when it's been busy, our food was at our table in less time than we expected. Even the house wine is decent. Enjoy a nice meal. Entrees are in the high... More
