Imagine that you're winding your way through narrow streets near the Pantheon in Rome. You stumble upon a crowded trattoria where servers hurry by carrying plates of pasta carbonara, rigatoni al pomodoro, bowls of gnocchi swimming in melted gorgonzola-as well as platters of grilled meats and sausage. The aromas are divine, the atmosphere lively and joyful. You have found Maccheroni, a tremendously popular trattoria owned by Luciano Flamini. A similar atmosphere has been created at il vecchio on the Monterey Peninsula. Il vecchio means "the old," and everything about this trattoria romana makes you think you've discovered a traditional dining spot favored by Roman cognoscenti.

Another wonderful meal!

We have now eaten at il vecchio four times. It's become a "go to" restaurant for us on our trips to Pacific Grove. We each order something different , on each visit, so we can share. Second visit, eight months apart, with family; same excellent meal, extremely well prepared, fresh & flavorful. Eclectic array of dishes and preparations, not your usual heavy Italian cuisine.

What a treat to find il vecchio: superb service, delightful menu (and prices), and excellent food! We shared every dish family style which suited the dishes and friendly ambiance. From the antipasto plate to the homemade gnocchi and filet mignon, all was simply done and delicious. There is no doubt the owner can take pride in running an excellent establishment... More

We had our dinner once visiting the aera and it was very nice and tasty. Can easily come back and enjoy the Eggplant parmigniana or the nice pastas. Good service and good atmosphere. Can be very crowded.

We typically have trouble finding places our entire family can enjoy at the same time. We have three teenagers and one vegan :) So hard to find variety for all. il vecchio did just that for our family. The vegan soup was a home run...my wife wants the recipe. Her meal was outstanding as well. My kids also enjoyed a... More

My husband and I went here for dinner tonight (a Sunday evening) at my sisters recommendation.. I had the Filet Mignon and my husband had the Wild Cod. We shared a Rhubarb Dessert. Everything was fixed to perfection. Good wine too! Service was great. Arrived at 5:30 and we were seated immediately. Started filling up and getting busy soon after... More

This will be our go place from now on. The food and service were perfect. In addition to the dinner menu, they have a business lunch. A salad and two Pastas (meat sauce and pesto). They bring it to you on a rolling cart. Great concept if you are in a hurry or want a value based lunch. It's Pacific... More

My wife and I came into town to visit friends. They suggested we have dinner at il Vecchio. We arrived early before the other couple. During that time, I had a chance to talk to owner. He was so nice after our chat to offer us each a glass of Prosecco. What a pleasant way to start our dinner! The... More

I have eaten here a number of times in the past year or so. Never had a bad meal or even a bad dish! If you like a caprese salad, try the Burrata - exquisite mozzarella and tomatoes like candy! Something new to me on this trip was the Workman's Lunch they now offer. Between 12 Noon and 1:30 PM,... More
