Imagine that you're winding your way through narrow streets near the Pantheon in Rome. You stumble upon a crowded trattoria where servers hurry by carrying plates of pasta carbonara, rigatoni al pomodoro, bowls of gnocchi swimming in melted gorgonzola-as well as platters of grilled meats and sausage. The aromas are divine, the atmosphere lively and joyful. You have found Maccheroni, a tremendously popular trattoria owned by Luciano Flamini. A similar atmosphere has been created at il vecchio on the Monterey Peninsula. Il vecchio means "the old," and everything about this trattoria romana makes you think you've discovered a traditional dining spot favored by Roman cognoscenti.

Fantastic lunch specials!

Lunch here is amazing and the price can't be beat! Delicious, inventive pastas, giant family style salads, and great wine. Great ambiance inside too.

We were pleasantly surprised when we found this Italian restaurant in Pacific Grove. Good wine selection, average prices. The meatballs and gnocchi were both solid. It seemed more modern Italian than classic - great place just off Cannery Row.

My husband and I ate at Il Vecchio on a Monday night in February, and the place was jumping. We had a grilled and raw vegetable plate with olives and pecorino for an appetizer -- it was very good. For our main dishes, my husband had a carbonara pasta which was good, and I had a braised pork shoulder dish... More

I decided to take my party here because it not only has a good TA rating, but Richard, our Uber driver last night gave it a great recommendation too. We were not disappointed. I called to see what availability was like on a Friday evening and they said that they would have a table for when we arrived. True to... More

I gathered here for a friends' birthday and it felt like being in someone's home. The food and service were both divine and I loved the decor as well. Go! :)

I have dined at this restaurant many times in the last several years and it has always had excellent food and great service. I couldn't imagine how it could get any better...but it did on my trip to Monterey this month. The setting is still far from elegant (which makes it more attractive for me) but the friendly and seasoned... More

We visit the Monterey peninsula yearly and always stay in Pacific Grove. Always on the lookout for new restaurants to try, we came across Il Vecchio after looking on Trip Advisor. The restaurant is not in downtown PG, but on the main street leading into PG from Monterey. We made our reservations on the phone and were seated at a... More

I had heard that one of their signature dishes is the gnocchi and I was reeeaally looking forward to it. Once I had it, I was not too impressed with it. We were seated next to the kitchen and saw many spaghetti and meatball dishes coming out, wish I had ordered that instead. Despite that, it was good food and... More

Imagine walking into a restaurant and being hit by the delicious smells of food actually cooking on a stove. You have walked into Il vecchio. This restaurant has delightful people there who really help you understand what your taster might be wanting. The chef is a creative master. Love their food!I I always order their soup of the day, unless... More

We discovered il Vecchio a few years ago after it opened. We noticed the people waiting for tables from across the street in another restaurant. There are many healthy choices, and more than fabulous desserts!
