A quiet Sunday evening in Pacific Grove, but this restaurant was pretty busy. The Japanese chef is well versed in French cookery and our main courses of salmon and a strong ravioli were very competent. We were served by the chef's wife, a charming lady. The mango mousse dessert was particularly delicious.

Not sure this place should be in business with how we were treated. I try not to give any poor reviews on trip advisor but I need to for this place. Not sure why services was so poor but if service is then food will be too. Do not recommend! Go to Red House Cafe!

We had a very nice greeting from the wife. She was extremely personable and made us feel welcome. I had sand dabs which I never had before and although it was good, I am not sure I would order it again. My husband had chicken marsala which he said was good, just not really anything special. We had the combo... More

This is a local place and while the service and wine list isn't world class, the food was very good. sometimes you need home cooking. The chef is Japanese but the menu was American. I had pot roast! And the restaurant was peppered with locals just in for a meal.

Max's has a fairly simple menu that is french inspired but local in nature. We go here whenever we are in PG and have never been disappointed. The food is good and they have a decent wine selection. Tip - have the crab cakes, the rib-eye is delicious too.

Cannot understand why the rating is so high. Ordered duck confit and tomato bisque. Soup was ok, but the duck was dry, not tasty, seems not fresh. Greatly disappointed. My husband ordered chicken piccata. Was ok and the portion was small.. Mango mouse was ok. We did not order wine so the service was not attentive at all. They pay... More

Fantastic meal! Great service! Hubby had the Sand Dabs (1st try) and I had the night's special Escolar. Both were delicious. The bill with 2 soft drinks came to $48.

We first tried to go to Max's for a Monday night dinner to find they were closed but checked the window menu and speicals they had for Tuesday, including early bird small plate specials that looked very good. We went back on Tuesday and tried the prk ribs appetizer and the sautéed calamari steak and braised lamb shanks as entrees-... More

Personal, friendly service from entry to seating to eating. Every item we had was delicious -- the crab-stuffed ravioli was real, the Sand Dab fish was expertly cooked in butter to give it the right flavor. Moderate portions but with the bread and oil up front, everyone was satisfied. We will be going back here!
