Max's Grill was very nice. We had a party of 6 and the group was all pleased with their food. We went to this restaurant based solely on the previous trip advisor reviews. I was a little nervous to have suggested it when we arrived at the restaurant and there were no other customers. We were the only customers the... More

It was good, but after all the hype, and the rating, I expected superlative. I had the Calamari steak, which did not have enough lemon caper sauce (what was there was good, just nowhere near enough). My husband had the duck confit and, again, it was good, but for a 'signature dish' it was a bit dry.

What it lacks in ambiance, this restaurant makes up for with its outstanding food and service. The restaurant is rather plain, but the menu and cuisine were outstanding. I would definitely recommend this place.

Took the whole family here for a special meal last week. Wow! I knew the reviews were great and I was expecting a great meal, but I can't emphasize how great the food is here. Absolutely perfect ravioli. Whether you order the mushroom, the dungeness crab, or the duck confit with duck ravioli, it doesn't matter. You will have possibly... More

Again, after reading rave reviews about Max's Grill, my wife and I decided to try it for dinner. She ordered the price fixed meal: spinach salad, pot roast with roasted potatoes and vegetables, and mango mousse. She enjoyed the salad, did not like the pot roast because of its overwhelmingly wine flavor, and was neutral on the mango mousse. I... More

This is a solid 4 stars in my book -- very well prepared food, good service, and pleasant environment. The $25 prix fixe menu offers some pretty decent choices at a great price. We started with appetizers of crab cakes and spinach salad. Crab cakes were full of sweet Dungeness crab, with a terrific aoli mayonnaise that was divine. Spinach... More

This Tripadvisor recommended restaurant was indeed a treat. My husband and I both had appetizers - my shrimp egg rolls were outstanding - and then we both had fish for dinner. He had sand dab - a local fish, and I had the wahoo. Both were perfectly cooked with excellent sauces that did not overwhelm the natural flavor of the... More

I was traveling on business in the Monterey area and tried Max's Grill. The food and service were excellent. They have a 3-course meal for $25, which includes a starter (I had spinach, blue cheese and walnut salad), a main course (I had the pot roast, which was $2 more and worth the extra) and either a dessert or glass... There is cooking and then there is cuisine. Max's is in the cuisine category. The sand dabs and tempura shrimp was spiced to perfection, so we returned the next night to crab and salmon wellington and mushroom ravioli .And everything is made from scratch. So we will return time and time again, on our next trip to Monterey. Oh did... More

My boyfriend and I can for dinner. While seating and actually being greated and asked for a beverage order did seem to take longer than it should, once we got started things went well. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. I ordered the lamb. My boyfriend ordered thr rib eye. While neither was the best rib eye or lamb we... More
