Great homemade pies! The french toast was a little dry or overdone though. Prices are reasonable. Restaurant on the main street and easy to find. We will eat here again.

It’s like 4 year old news by now but the Village Inn Coffee Shop changed owners. It used to be an easy 5 stars - excellent. No longer. I have returned quite a few times since the change and it’s simply slid some, downhill. Met...our friends here this morning. Atmosphere is about the same but I miss the waitresses that were more “East Coast” calling you honey and stuff. Service is still pretty good however. The signature corn beef hash is about the same. Generous portion with lots of chunks of high quality corn beef. My pouched eggs were cooked perfectly. Fresh OJ still rocks. But the little things that add up to bigger difference are sad to see changed. The maple syrup never was real maple syrup but it used to be a good fake syrup - like Log Cabin level. Now it tastes like candy, not maple syrup. Just corn syrup with some brown food coloring. Pretty awful actually. My waffle was stone cold, Would not even melt the butter. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have sent it back. Waffles used to always come out hot, ALWAYS. And the coffee is nowhere is good as it used to be. Strong engouh, which is a plus, but you can tell it’s a bottom of the barrel cheap coffee. Charge 50 cents more per cup and use a better brew please. All and all, still a nice spot and good, maybe very good but not excellent any more. Sad to experience the decline.More
Met some friend for a New Years breakfast. Got a table, ordered breakfast, and talked. Coffee was fresh, eggs like I liked them, and toast crisp.
Reliable omelets and pancakes...you will run into friends and regulars..nothing fancy, but we love having a day lazy enough or Sunday brunch after church to just come and linger .stop by orinda books while You are waiting for your table ..we always do That
the pizza is good. the rest of the menu is hit and miss. the ribs were salty and overcooked. the service is mediocre
The Chicken and Waffles is my favorite breakfast (or lunch) around. Their waffles have always been amazing--like the best waffle of my life--and to get one now with the hottest, freshest fried chicken I've ever tasted is a revelation. The gravy is great too, but...I'm not a connoisseur. Lots of things here are delicious. This is a true local family diner that you don't find much anymore. Never change a thing.More
There's often a line to get into this restaurant for breakfast but it's well worth the wait. The menu offers all the usuals but also other amazing selections such as chicken fried steak Benedict! My favorite is the corned beef hash. They cure their own...corned beef and the flavour makes this the best hash I've had. I can only manage the half portion but if you've got a big appetite try the full-sized order and add one or two rashers of their incredible bacon. If you're in Orinda - or anywhere in the East Bay - make this a must-go-to for breakfast at least one day!More
Always good food and friendly service. Love their French Toast, egg salad sandwich and grilled cheese.
Terrific Menu, timely service. The country potatoes are outstanding! Must stop when in Orinda... Sit at the Bar!
I live this place. Best food anywhere! I go to this place at least twice a week and never disappointed. Good food, good value and service is excellent. Their breakfast is the best anywhere!
My cousins live in Orinda, and they made a point of taking ne to the Village Inn Cafe (which they call Kurt’s) for breakfast. The food was delicious! I’d recommend both the corned beef hash and the huevos rancheros. Go there!
I have been coming to this cafe for 30 years. I have not been for a few years. I’m just back from London and had no food in the house. Decided to head here for breakfast. It did not disappoint. They have been putting out...the same delicious waffle, perfectly cooked bacon and good strong coffee just as well as ever after all these years. So thankful they are still here and with many of the same great waitstaff. I’ll be back again soon!More
If you didn't know this place existed, you'd be hard pressed to find it. Sitting in a quiet strip mall next to a fire station with only a quiet sign over the door the Village Inn awaits. Inside is just as plain: Formica tables set...loosely in rows, easily moved to accommodate a variety of seating needs. Historical photos nicely framed on the wall. Family owned and operated, it has that vib. We visited on a Sunday. Important because breakfast is served all day. But, on other days they have a strict policy of cutting breakfast off at 11:25 (I believe), which I've been told is rigidly enforced. Anyway, standard breakfast fare. I had a three egg omelet and added ingredients from the list. My wife ordered oatmeal. She though it quite good--not the best she's had--but homemade and tasty. As was the omelet--very fresh fluffy perfectly cooked eggs and plentiful ingredients inside. Service was pleasant as well. They do a good job!More
Coming from Germany visiting our son and grandson living here, we were surprised getting the opportunity to order an almost „European-style Breakfast“. Bacon, fried Eggs, Toast, Butter, Marmelade, regular Coffee and not the „normal French Toast, Omelette, Farmer‘s style biggies“ And at very reasonable prices....Wow, what a nice experience. Quality and Service absolutely excellent. The number of people at the tables and outside waiting to get in, showed, the Village Inn is the place to go for breakfast in Orinda. Just perfect. We‘ll certainly will be back.More
Village Inn is terrific for what it does -- serve a delicious and standard breakfast a a good price in a comfortable setting. I go there often to meet and talk with friends.
