Description: We at Azu believe the best dishes are made from fresh ingredients. We look to the local farmers that we know grow quality organic and natural produce, that help give our menu that special California twist. Our bar menu is filled with craft cocktails with juices squeezed right from Ojai's citrus orchards where are bartenders hand pick fruit to help make the perfect mimosa, martini's, and Richies famous Bloody Mary. We love supporting our California wineries, breweries, farmers, and hormone free companies. We buy locally and organically whenever possible and strive to add a California twist to our Spanish inspired menu. For over 10 years, Owner and Chef Laurel Moore has taken this inspiration and has created a ambiance and menu that has the feel of a mediterranean retreat, authentic destination, and local Ojai escape. We strive to provide the tastiest and freshest ingredients while preparing our dishes with the pure natural flavor of farm driven produce and flavors. We offer organic, vegan, Paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, and other dietary restricted options as well as healthy nutritional options for kids. Our dishes are designed to meet the needs of Everyone who walks through our historic doors. We cater to couples nights out, large parties and receptions, wedding events, Happy Hour connoisseurs, anniversary celebrations, outdoor dining, Tapas tastings, wine tastings, beer samplings, corporate events, and have a wide variety of Tapas and Celebration menus to choose from. Busy place.....not enough servers scheduled. My husband's swordfish looked AMAZING, but the Paella (supposed to be a Spanish staple) was disgusting. Pretty simple dish to make, but the rice was gummy, not fluffy and burned to the bottom of the paella pan it was served in. Odd thing was, it didn't even LOOK fresh, but our server didn't question it's... More

We are so sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience at Azu. We were in fact under staffed for the busy Sunday Night! Some one called in sick and it is impossible to get someone to come in on a Sunday if they were not already scheduled. I will talk to the Executive Chef about the Paella. It... More

The food was good not great but the service (while cheerful) left a lot to be desired. We didn't get our drinks until after we had gotten our meal and our intention was to relax over our drinks first before eating, There was no effort made to make a concession for this so we didn't linger, and I don't think... We are so sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience at Azu. Our chile relleno does vary a lot in the spice level and in the cold season they get hotter. All of our menu and pricing is available online. Our prices vary from small tapas at $6 to $40 steaks. I recommend coming to the bar at... More

Though some locals recommended this restaurant, our experience was less than satisfactory. In this price range, we expect better service. Our server did not inform of us specials and did not warn us just how spicy hot the chili rellenos were. I had to order another dish as sweat broke out on my brow. Ordering "bowls" of soup, we received... More

I have eaten here several times and am partial to their tapas. You can choose a large or small portion. We started with olives which had a nice variety but a pretty small serving. They had some interesting cocktails, and we were asked for feedback because they are fairly new. We tried the pomegranate cosmo, and it was a winner.... More

Moorish influence on Spanish tapas -- very tasty and interesting, so there's more than just salami wrapped around an olive, like you get at other tapas places. I had the excellent calamari fried in rice flour nicely seasoned with coarse salt and pepper with a garlic aioli and tartar sauce (both freshly made) for dipping, the lamb slider with a... More

I had the most amazing glass (ok maybe bottle) of malbec and some fantastic spanish cheeses, olives and bacon wrapped dates that were to die for. Service was just ok.

The food is very well made. Loved the soup, and a great price. Very creative cauliflower (who would think of deep frying it and adding a tiny amount of flavored sauce - note, ask for more than the tablespoon of sauce that comes with it, as it makes a nice difference to the dish). The paella was nice, but consisted... More

A most enjoyable meal was had at Azu, not really being sure of what to expect. Delicious soup, followed by a 'small' plate of Calamari, which was much more substantial than expected. The Calamari was cooked perfectly. We tried the Dates wrapped in bacon, which were amazing - a really good choice. Desert was a cobbler, with some of their... More

Eaten here twice -- excellent both times. The tapas selections are adventurous, creative, and more substantial than mere appetizers. To experience the variety, order several items and share. The local wines on offer from the Ojai Alisal vineyards are very pleasant. We particularly enjoyed the Viognier -- retails online for $30 a bottle and the restaurant offers it for only... More
