Description: A cafe-market-bakery-salad bar serving Mexican food using organic chiles, tomatoes and tomatillos grown at the farm. The tortillas are handmade and the sangria is topped with local Ojai citrus. Quite a few vegan, raw and gluten-free offerings; everything else is vegetarian. Lovely outdoor patio with a striped green awning and a view of the mountains.

First, the food at Farmer & Cook is quite good. But our group of 9 was left waiting with no food for nearly an hour. (No, wait - they brought us a single plate of bread in apology for the long delay.) The explanation? "We received a lot of takeout orders." Hmmm . . . we reserved the day before... More

Famous for their Huevos Rancheros, Farmer and Cook's did not disappoint here. The breakfast burrito however, was inedible...too many vegetables and eggs. I was disappointed that while the restaurant served smoothies with every imaginable kind of fruit, you could not order fruit!!! At a breakfast place!!!! Really? It's unAmerican!!!. It was a lovely December day and we sat outside. Scenery... More

This is the typical hippie, filthy place. It's super unhygienic, and I felt I wish I were a turtle so I could escape and hide within my shell when I was standing in line to order food. There are a few sporadic grocery selections, a tiny salad bar, and a pretentious counter to order your food. The salad bar should... More

The Farmer and the Cook in Ojai is a wonderful gem with fresh-picked that morning organic fare. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, relaxed and low-key, fun and funky. And the food is simply delicious! Everything is homemade and the produce could not be any fresher! Absolutely fabulous.

We tried to eat here on a Sunday night, but the crowd for the live music outside was so large, there was no place to park. So we went back the next day for lunch. This is a fun place to go in and see what's fresh in their organic market. The food was okay. Not spectacular, but healthy.

Ojai has a ton of great eateries. But when you need to get away from all the heavy meals, Farmer & Cook has numerous options for a light, refreshing snack or meal. I've tried their salad bar, their veggie burger, juevos rancheros, acai bowl, and cacao/almond smoothie. All of them were amazing. Their salad bar veers away from the typical... More

I was delighted to visit Farmer & Cook, one of many natural and vegan-friendly food joints in Ojai, California. But this one sets the bar. Not only does it have a great selection of organic produce that I picked up to make the perfect vegan stew, but they fearlessly display in their front window that they DO NOT support GMOs... More
