Throwback Diner

The 101 is just off of PCH and Wisconsin. It reminds me of a diner back in the fifties. The food is great and their specialties are their waffles, pancakes and milkshakes. The milkshakes are creamy and homemade making it that much better.

Just came back from the 101 Diner in oceanside. What a great place. My husband had pancakes and a root beer float. I had a burger (the good old-fashioned kind) and a milkshake. Really tasty. Unlike trendy places dressed up as old-style, this place is absolutely authentic. Good diner menu, very reasonable prices. Great nostalgia music playing in the background,... More

It was great to find a restaurant like this when we're on vacation. The building has a lot of history. We enjoyed looking at the photos on the walls while we waited for our food. The waitstaff was friendly. They had a pretty large menu. I had a simple cheeseburger and my husband had the open faced turkey sandwich. Food... More

We love that our guest review the 101. Remember that when we opened most people still did not have a phone. Now we can instantly review a business. We work day in and day out to keep our quality the highest and our service the best. We know that not everyone will like our place, but we do take it... More

I am from Indiana and saw the establishment while driving down the 101. Stopped this morning and enjoyed meeting one of the owners, John Daley. Food was great and plenty of it with Hoosier prices and service. Stop and enjoy this classic place.

Down home cooking, pleasant atmosphere. Always go to O'side just for 101 Cafe. Way better than a chain restaurant. Reminds me of the good 'ole days.

3 Years ago on vacation in Carlsbad we ate at the '101' & enjoyed Breakfast & Milk Shakes. We went back again that year & again the past 2 Holiday's from our Solana Beach condo. They have fun names for your Breakfast. We've always enjoyed our food, we start by ordering house made Chocolate Malts. Bob's usual is the 'Deep... More

Gave this a try hoping it would be one of those "hole-in-the-wall" diners we all discover once in a blue moon. Sadly, 😩 that was not the expectation. The food disappointed. The pancakes were rubbery. The spinach omelette was lukewarm. The cheese inside the omelette was not fully melted. Hash browns were 👎. The reason for the two stars? The... More

Just a little corner hole in the wall that allows you to remembers days gone by. The menu is limited but it is worth a stop
