Yummy

This is a fab restaurant, great food, great recipe book - love this place, wonderful to support West Oakland too! Wonderful Louisiana food, yummy beignets, best fried chicken, apple maple syrup and much more.

Got there at 10:30 am on a Friday the wait was long, seems to die down around 11:45, which is odd bc that's normally lunch beginning. I ordered the chicken and waffles; the chicken was good you receive and wing and breast, however they ran out of breast and gave me a thigh without letting me know prior. I was... More

Everything we read about this place was as billed. Our group had the chicken and waffles and the jerk chicken. Both were very good. If I was to go back, or when I do, I would order their jerk chicken. The flavore was outstanding and cooked perfectly. The wait was also as expected. Our group of four waited the full... More

The wait was worth every single minute. The waffles were incredible and the chicken was delicious too. A definitely must.

Seriously we were told there were no eggs and had to wait 30 minutes after ordering for food to come to the table. The waitress "Forgot" to bring us water and coffee after requesting it. We had to block her path because she refused to acknowledge our waves. While our "30 minute wait" that turned into 40; the people who... More

What do you do when you get a notice that your flight is delayed for a hour-ish while you are enroute to the airport? You pull over; search for great, unique Oakland restaurants and in my case.... Head for Brown Sugar Kitchen because good soul food is not common in my hometown.... Once the decision was made on the WHERE... More

We've been wanting to try Brown Sugar Kitchen for ages, but were daunted by the wait. Today we were up early and, despite the fact that Father's Day spelled crowds, we decided to give it a try. Perhaps because we arrived close to opening time, we waited only 15-20 minutes for one of the best breakfasts we can remember. The... More

Food was OK, not worth the wait or rudeness. Will never go back and will make sure friends don't waste their time or money.

Once in a while I would get a craving for Brown Sugar Kitchen and nothing else would do. So sorry to see that some diners felt unsafe and/or had their cars vandalized. I frequented this place regularly when i lived in Oakland for 4+ years and didn't have a problem and never heard that any of my friends did either.... More

I took a friend who just arrived from Minnesota for the weekend to the Brown Sugar Kitchen for breakfast since I had been a couple times before, enjoyed the food, and wanted to support the local chef. We arrived around 11AM on a weekday and waited around 30 minutes for a table, but ended up taking seats at the counter.... More
