After living in Oakland for 3 years, we finally made our way to the Brown Sugar Kitchen. This place has been praised by everyone from Oprah to Zagat. The location is more than a bit off the beaten path and you'll no doubt find yourself waiting 30+ minutes for a table but it is so worth it! Chicken and Waffles... More

The chicken and waffle is the bomb!! Only thing we didn't like is we would like to have tried a bisquit but couldn't until 12. some of the items only served after 12, We were there at 10. Worth the wait. Coffee is delicious as well. Would go back again

Chicken and Waffles is the thing and both are excellent. I've never fully gotten the whole combo but they do it really well. The waffles are crispy and so is the chicken with just enough spice to balance with the sweet maple syrup. Coffee drinks are also good and I'm fussy.

Never in a million years would I expect to find such a great place to eat in such a funky location. Everything they serve including the coffee is delicious. The waffles are especially good, very light and crispy.

Didn't try the chicken, but the waffle was delicious as was the biscuit. Will definitely go back. Don't leave valuables in your car. There are signs everywhere.

For a Saturday morning, I was initially concerned about the line but was pleasantly surprised when we were called less than 20mins later to be seated. The waiter was attentive and took the time to answer our questions. Those fresh baked biscuits melt in your mouth. My waffles and sausages were yummilcious which is not a word in the dictionary... Quite a wait, which is usually a good sign, but food was not up to the raves to account for the wait. Customer service of the host was seriously lacking and an aspect to ignore if the food was outstanding. Server not so great either but nice enough. Biscuit was not up to the hype, rather dense; scrambled eggs were... More
