Wood's chief asset is the people who work and eat there. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, yes, but the best part is chatting with one of the bartenders or the person next to you. Yes, the quality of food is good here. But Oakland in general is getting San Francisco flight (including chefs) and Wood Tavern benefitted from being one of the first a while back. It was easy to walk in off the street for lunch (I swear), still had to make reservations for dinner but not weeks in advance. The pork chop... More

entries included pork chop, halibut, steak and pasta dish. All were acceptable except the halibut which I was told was outstanding and the pork chop which was terrible. The salads were excellant--ceasar and the soup was good. this is normally a great place and we go often but it may be a while til try again. We asked if they... More

Lively atmosphere, competent friendly and knowledgeable servers, but great food. From appetizer to desert a meal to remember. The high point for us The Russet Potato Gnocchi served with green peas and seasoned with herbs. Not just a dish but a memory! Parking is a nightmare but there is a BART station 4 short blocks and a pleasant walk away... More

Has the right mix of great food, vibrant location and enough to eat. I introduce clients to the place, and everyone comes back on their own.

Went out to alameda and on the way back home I looked up a good place and happened upon the wood tavern. The beer was good, pastrami was excellent. We tried the blue cheese and pork rillettes for the appetizer and split the sandwich. Great choice! To get in we sat at the counter , which was fun seeing the... More

I took 5 people and we all had something different. Two people had steak and they loved it. I had the pork chop and it was outstanding. The aspargus appertizer was so good I wish i had ordered two or three and skipped the pork chop.

Celebrating my husband's birthday and the food and service were spot on. I would not recommend for small children except for maybe the large round table at back of room as the sturdy but smallish tables for two , which can be put together for more in a row, leave little space to amuse preschoolers without knocking over something. The... More

We just had lunch at Wood Tavern, again, and was impressed, again, at how careful they are to make every aspect of the dining experience perfect. It was crowded, so we sat at the counter watching the chef prepare our meal. The elements of the fish soup were gently sauteed in butter and broth, and spices added to create a... More
