This is the second time I've been to Champa Garden and brought here by my friends who live in Oakland. The Thai, Laotian food here is phenomenal and the price? I cannot believe that one can get such an excellent meal in the East Bay area at such a reasonable price. I won't say they are giving it away, but... More

Stopped in for the first time for a late lunch. Lots of choices on the menu and lots of condiments on the table; everything from fish sauce to tamarind powder. Our server was helpful with choosing items that would be good together without overpowering each other. Our spicy fish and savory noodles were great with the crisp BeerLao. Champa Garden... More

Michelin guide rated in a bit of a rough neighborhood. Every night is busy for good reason. It is our "go to" place for family dinners out.

It was busy, but seats at the bar are almost always available it seems. I ordered the Thai-style papaya salad, as well as Laotian sausage and the fried banana dessert. The papaya salad was large and amongst the best I've had anywhere. Took a third of it home with me and it was just as good the next day! The... More

This is a great local eatery local in transition neighborhood. I go to different type place to try out local food and food that reflex a cultural bias. I provide rating based on the style and type of restaurant that I happen to be in. I don’t expect fancy seating and super service from a local neighborhood establishment. This is... More

Our Oakland friends took us to Champa Garden for dinner and we made it before the dinner rush/line. The place was filled when we arrived at 5:15 PM, but there was a table for 4 in the back under the mounted TV. Each dish was fresh and tasty; the curry wasn't too hot/spicy/sweet. The company of good friends and fabulous... More

Our son and his girlfriend took us to this restaurant when we were visiting from the east coast. It is worth the drive. We ate appetizers at the small bar, while we were waiting for a table. The place was packed. The spring rolls fried in rice wrappers were very good. The appetizer tray arrived with plenty of fresh herbs... More

Champa Garden is one of the best "Cheap Eats" restaurants anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. But don't let the low prices fool you. This is Southeast Asian cooking at the highest level. Recognized by Michelin every single year, and for good reason.

This is in a sketchy neighborhood in Oakland, a little east of Lake Merritt in a residential area across the street from a barred-up convenience store, yet it's always overfilling with patrons, even at 3:30pm on a Saturday. This is due to their low prices, good service (after adjusting for degree of difficulty due to the jam-packed house) and good... More

Drove all the way to Oakland to try this restaurant for lunch only because it was mentioned in the Michelin Guide of SF 1013 edition. First of all, after seeing the neighborhood, I wouldn't go there at night. The place was relatively packed on Saturday afternoon. I ordered seafood pad thai and thai iced tea. Both were just average. Okay... More
