Went for Happy Hour and tapas, ended up having full meals. The service was great, accommodating and always with a smile. Drinks were well mixed, tapas and food were great. My experience at Tamarindo made entertaining family from overseas a great one.

The food and service was great. The restaurant was very clean and had an all around great atmosphere.

Within a block of the Convention Center in downtown Oakland, Tamarindo offers tasty dishes in a casual atmosphere. Had the ceviche, seared scallops, grilled chiles, grilled vegetables, shrimp tacos, and chicken tamales. All were very good! Considering the quality of the food and the service, the prices are reasonable (unless you're used to chain restaurants, then you're bound to be... More

If you are tired of uninspired Mexican food that is for gringos only, then go here. From food to beverages, sample as many items as you can, family style. Quite delicious and fun! Check out the large mezcal selection, plus tequilla. Not cheap though. Best for a special night out. We went for a college graduation celebration.

I agree with the other reviews that the portions are small (it's tapas style after all) and that the drinks are expensive (but they are delicious and the bartenders really know their Mezcal and Tequila) and that it gets crowded (because the food is fantastic) but we love the unique Mexican plates they produce. We've tried roughly 7-8 dishes the... More

The servers were very cordial and welcoming, the margaritas were very good, the service was fast, and the decor was excellent. A must visit in Oakland.

In the midst of Oakland's rapidly spiffifying restaurant district, this place is a gem. Don't come here for US-style Mexican food; this is an eating adventure that fuses pre-conquest meso-American flavors with California cuisine. Antojitos, much the same as tapas, invite your party to try new things, and compose a diverse meal. There's the expected heat -- peppers, a bite... More

Tamarindo is not your typical taco & burrito cafe. The dishes here are crafted with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented by professional staff. The dining room is alive with color, art, music and conversation. We have dined there many times and it's usually full, unless you arrive early or late. The chef prepares food from different parts of Mexico that... More

This Mexican restaurant is in the old city of Oakland. It has since doubled in size due to the brisk business. The wait staff are polite, professional and helpful. We were a party of three and began luncheon with the Sopa Azteca, nice and hot with some spice. Then, we ordered some Guacamole with blue corn chips to share. The... More

Recently visited TA for a birthday dinner for my son. There were 5 of us. The decor is very spare with art inspired by Day of the Dead images. They play Black + White Mexican movies on a wall in the corner. Very interesting, a bit loud but pleasant. Unfortunately, the service and the food were disappointing: pricey small plates... More
