My wife and I were going to see Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at the Paramount Theater. Luka's is one block away and really gets you ready for a show. Busy bar and restaurant vibe. This definitely speaks to the resurgent Oakland downtown. It advertises as French-Belgium fare. It seems more Southern. I had the Carolina Shrimp and Grits. Fantastic!... More

We hadn't eaten at Luka's in a couple of years so we returned for lunch on a Tuesday and immediately remembered why it's been two years - the noise level. Once the restaurant starts to fill up, the noise level rises to an intensity which makes it difficult to understand each other across the table. Since other reviewers mention this... More

A short distance from The Cathedral of Christ the Light, this restaurant was a great find. Local fresh oysters (6 each) and a shared Reuben sandwich. Freshly prepared with barley salad, this was ample for two. It was very crowded at 2 pm. Prompt, attentive service made it a very pleasant experience.

Luka's is one of my favorite places in Oakland to chill out, eat, and get some dancing in. They have great food and great music. I love their mac and cheese.

Luka's Taproom was a terrific surprise - every morsel was delicious. The huge green salad was a fresh way to start and we all loved out mains. Bouillabaisse had piles of shellfish and perfect tender fish in a tasty broth. The Pozole had great textures and flavors and the bevette steak was tender and flavorful. We split two desserts and... This is a lunchtime hot spot - you should probably make reservations. It can be really hard to get seated sometimes. And sometimes you will need to wait even with a reservation. That said, the food is worth it. The drink, too (known from weekend brunches). Oysters on the 1/2 shell, AWESOME fries with a trio of dipping sauces. Lovely... More

Convenient place to eat when seeing something at the Paramount or the Fox Theaters. I almost always get the burger and fries when I go. The burger is great and the thick cut fries are the best. It has a good energy as well.

We tried salmon, lamb with garbanzo beans sauce and grits with spicy savory sauce. All 3 dishes had excellent flavors. Great to share. Wine list did not match the food, which was disappointing . Did not care for Mac and cheese balls. Too starchy.

I made reservations for a birthday lunch and it was $1 oyster Monday but we didn't order the oysters. We ordered a beet and apple salad and french fries, catfish poor boy sandwich, ahi tuna salad, fried chicken salad and shrimp louie salad. The birthday girl enjoyed her ahi tuna salad and everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. However,... More
