Nice little tap room tucked into Piedmont Ave in Oakland. Stopped by for lunch and had a Cato burger with fries which was very good and local ale from the bar. Good lunch time menu and plenty of options from the bar.

This is the neighbourhood pub in my friend's hood, so we all went while staying with her . I loved the beers on tap, quite a selection. One day we both had the beet salad which was good. Another night though, we all ordered food with our beer and wine. My friend enjoyed her mushroom burger alot, but my veggie... More

I will admit I am somewhat prejudiced. I used to live about a 15 minute walk away and became a regular. As a consiquence I rarely paid full amout for the beer I consumed. I got friendly with a number of people and generally had fun, even hanging out in back and smoking ganja on occasion. Although the clientele is... More

I've been here hundreds and hundreds of times. The beer is incredible. The food can be good sometimes, then other times it's awful. DO NOT order the salad. They are repeatedly warm and have a faint smell of squid or mackerel. The Obama is probably the best thing on the menu. The pizza is unpredicatable. The lamb-burger needs to be... More

It's pizza and burger fare, but it always tastes better with beer. And beer they have, lots of varieties on tap. The TV's are small, so you'd have to stand at the bar to watch the sports. The place is LOUD, so expect to raise your voice a little to talk. Slide into a wood-seated booth and a wood table... More

Always with an outstanding selection of beer on tap, frequently featuring live music, filled with the friendliest patrons and staff around, Cato´s is my home away from home when I visit Oakland... Sure it can be loud-- that´s part of its charm-- and I wouldn´t recommend it for a business meeting for that reason, but if you are looking for... More

Go for the beer, and have some food while you're there. If you plan on having a real conversation, go early or go elsewhere.

I'm allergic to basil and vegan. Everything vegan has basil! Very disappointing. Will need to go back for beer.
