Yum!

Good soul food served in a rustic and authentic atmosphere. I have nothing bad to say about the meal, portions are large and very filling. The ribs were awesome and their hot sauce was actually hot. Had some heat unlike most 'hot' sauce. The sides were the usual but very tasty and the beans was... read more

Just got take out early on a Saturday evening. We only ordered one dish and two sides. They quoted us 30 minutes but it took about 50 minutes. Once we got it, it was delish (especially the ribs, brisket and corn bread) but I wouldn't order take-out again.

It is, literally, to die for. Portions are vast (feel free to split an order if you're flying out that night and can't take it home). The ribs have so much meat on them--where the heck to they get these anyway?? BUY some jars of their sauce to take home if you possibly can as well. At E&J, you are... More

Recently was in Oakland dropping off clients as I am a professional chauffer and found this place and smelled sooo good. Went inside and ordered brisket and ribs which came with 2 sides and corn muffin. When I got the dinner there was so much that I took half of it home. The flavor was really good. The bark on... My dining companion would not stop talking about how the meat just fell off the bones. He absolutely loved the ribs. I loved the potato salad. I could taste the lemon juice in the potato salad. It added a wonderful twist to a classic salad. It was the nicest barbecue restaurant I have ever been to. It was tastefully decorated... More

This place really is a trip into the past. The barbecued ribs were excellent -- and enough for me for two meals. I have no idea what happened to some of the other reviewers, but our service was excellent. My husband had a beef dish that was dry, so stick to the ribs -- with that fabulous sauce. And the... Strange experience, will not return. The gal who seated and served us was, at best, curt and at worst just plain rude. She never smiled, did not respond at all to any attempts to be friendly, and made overt and obvious avoidance of eye contact. We came for lunch ordered pork rib lunch and chicken salad. When our meal arrived,... More

If you want to have the smell of the food for 3 or 4 days, this is the place. If you like food that does not taste anything but bbq sauce, and with bad meat... It is rhe place. Side dishes are bad to say the least. And better not talk about the service which is slow and unfriendly. This... More

The food is so good that a to-go box is out of the question. Pour a glass of a rich, red wine and dig into the brisket, then a fork full of greens. Comfort food for a rainy day, clear day, any day actually.
