This is my must on every trip to the Bay Area. I go bt 5 pm to beat the crowds. I come for drinks and dining on the deck overlooking the Bay Area. We come for best mojitos, mac n cheese, calamari fritti, burgers.... Yes, service can be very slow- we saw our drinks sitting at the bar for 5... More

The Paragon is inside the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley (it's literally on the line between Berkeley and Oakland). It's really more of a tourist trap than anything else. The space is very small, the prices are outrageous and the service is marginal at best. Because the space is so small, the noise gets to be more than bothersome, it can... More

Just had an absolutely dismal visit to the Paragon. We have frequented the Claremont for over the last thirty years and this might be the last visit! We popped into the Paragon this evening to meet out of town friends (who were staying at the Claremont) for a quick drink before heading out to dinner. We grabbed a seat in... More

It was Fathers Day and we expected them to be busy, but this treatment the six of us experienced was unacceptable. We were there for drinks and dinner. We had drinks in the lounge area while waiting for our table. It took over and hour before we were seated. When settling our drink tab before being seated we were charged... More

The Paragon at The Claremont in Oakland is an "easy" and good place for drinks, "nibbles" and/or a full meal. There is a comfortable bar, outside patio area and inside dining room. There is an extra room as well for overflow or special events. Although the decor is nothing to write home about, both food and service are very good... More

We went for Christmas dinner. If a restaurant is not prepared, mentally, staff-wise, kitchen-wise and with enough space to accommodate the Christmas dinner experience, they should just not open. This was a disaster. Running 45-minutes behind reservation time, hostesses absolutely deer-in-the-headlights panicked. Diners were "lingering" more than two hours, and they couldn't handle it. Finally seated, out of oysters. Squash... More

This restaurant has a great ambiance. We went on a Friday night and it was very busy. They had a live band who looked like a group of high schoolers but they played well. Our group ordered appetizers and drinks and the drinks were good and some of the appetizers were good the others were just ok. Overall I think... More

I'm not a big fan of hotel restaurants, but here I was. This is the "cheaper" of the two Claremont restaurants, but you can easily spend $50-75 a person for a meal. You can get a not-overpriced hamburger for not so much. But I tried to be more adventuresome. A tuna appetizer was okay but no better Side dishes were... More

This is the perfect place to take your out-of-town guest for lunch. The view is superb, the setting is elegant, and the food is quite good. May be a bit more expensive than a typical lunch place, but then this is the Claremont! Ask for parking validation to avoid having to pay for parking.
