Better than it looks

I don't mean that it looks bad but the place has a rather small presence from the street and is surrounded by several other "fast-food" type establishments and so one might not expect the food to be so good, and the service so attentive -- but it is. Perhaps I shouldn't be telling you this, so it... read more

We were excited to have reservations here. The shrimp starter was terrific. Other entrees were very pedestrian, not unique or flavorful. How can a "rack" of lamb be 2 small chops? They were out of entrees and drink ingredients-- on a weekend! Pleasant location and pleasant employees but they could do better.

It had been several years since we had dined at Marica, and we had certainly enjoyed our prior meal there. The food at that time was very well prepared, the wine list had some gems on it, and there were little touches, such as a little welcoming dish that was provided to accompany the entrées. By comparison, the most recent... More

Over the last 12 years, I have eaten at Marica many times. I have never been disappointed. The entrees are perfectly prepared and plentiful. The vegetables and sides are fabulous. The desserts are outstanding. In my opinion, the fixed prix daily special is consistently terrific and an amazing value. It continues to remain very popular for good reason. The only... More

We've been coming here for years and the food is pretty good. Although just ok last night. We had some friends in town for the week and this was our farewell dinner spot. We all had a late lunch , so we weren't too hungry, but we all ordered food and dessert. I had the sweet corn and shrimp soup... More

Noisy and very crowded. Tables very close together. We had a table with a child next to us making it uncomfortable. We were there with our son and his wife for a nice adult evening out. There was also a table on the other side of the restaurant that was having a birthday and were very loud. Reservations required.

Situated toward the lower, once funkier end of College Ave, Marica wasn’t exactly on my way although I knew it was there. In fact Marica has been around before all the fancier newcomers came along. Open since 2000 they are so good they survived the crisis thanks to a steady flock of local fans and followers. I only wish I’d... More

We first visited Marica years ago and just keep returning when we want a special night out or when we just don't feel like cooking but don't want to spend a lot. Marica is perfect for both. The quality of the meals is consistently top notch, ingredients fresh, vegetables perfectly cooked, sauces perfectly seasoned, mains always delicious. The wine list... More

We live in the neighborhood - and consider ourselves spoiled and pretty picky for value, consisency and honest good food and service. On our three visits to maricia over several years we can't find fault! Great atmosphere consistent with the true feel of the area but not such a big deal that you have to compete to be served! maricia... More

Each of my visits to Marica has been consistently delicious. The service is good, the menu is varied and the seafood is very well done. The space is intimate, charming and has a cozy, warm neighborhood feel. Marica remains one of my go-to restaurants in Oakland.
