Good restaurant which should upgrade its service

We had dinner here one evening after a hiatus of a few years. While the main courses were well-prepared, we found the wait staff not as warm or friendly or service-oriented as in the past. For example, not once did our waitress refill our wine glasses. This restaurant needs to get back to its roots.

Great food and service here, maybe a bit too attentive for some. Very unusual and delicious dishes and a deep devotion to wine. (Lost on me, as I don't imbibe). Best to get a reservation. They have a special sound-conditioning system that allows for comfortable conversation even when it is very crowded. Not for every day dining, as it is... More

The ups or rather up was the pasta with garlic sausage and itty bitty mussels; it is one of the best pasta dishes I can recall having. THe downs, alas, were a bit disconcerting, particularly from a place with such a strong reputation. The crudo of beef was expertly minced, but lacked any taste. My wife loin of rabbit had... More

We dined on the second floor which is nicely appointed with tales spaced comfortably apart. Crisp, white table clothes and linens, and low background music allow easy conversation. All menu items are prepared with local, organically grown ingredients and local "green" meat sources. I had tortellini with ricotta cheese and squash blossom butter. Others had albacore tuna. All well prepared... More

Lunch and dinner at Oliveto Café and Restaurant are pleasant affairs. The environment is comfortable and encourages conversation. Service is friendly and responsive. The wine list contains interesting choices of California and European wines. And the food is locally-sourced, fresh and creative, with small and large plates available in a menu that offers many choices. A great neighborhood find or... More

again, a recommendation for several people for a nice dinner. Menu is Italian and Continental. Nice wine list. I prefer a table nearer to the edge of the floor rather than in center but not possible. Both dishes ordered were delicious and well prepared. Waiter was helpful in describing items if necessary and very pleasant. Many couples there for dinner... More

Coming out of Rockridge Bart station, you can find a real pizza and salades at oliveto bar and restaurant. I had a small pizza and a beet salad yesterday, a beer or glas of wine comes with it. Real goodplace!

Had the chicken dish at lunch and the chicken itself was really unappetizing -- I gave up after two trial bites. All the sauce (which wasn't an interesting flavor) was on the rubbery skin. The chicken itself didn't taste very good and had an unpleasant texture. Sides were fine but nothing very special -- a buttery green vegetable and a... More

We loved Oliveto when we last dined there two years ago and this time we liked it even better. The service is great including everyone from the hostess to the server to expediters, bus boys, etc. All were very competent, courteous, professional and friendly. We were seated promptly for our reservation. The restaurant is upstairs and is very romantic, but... More

Honestly didn't know what to expect. We had been hoping to get to Chez Panisse, but making reservations there is an ordeal that just didn't pan out. Turns out Oliveto is very similar in that they source all ingredients locally and put a gourmet twist on the food. Our table basically ordered one of each and split amongst ourselves. Not... More
