It a special night out for my husband and I. We were excited to have a wonderful dinner out on the town. My husband ordered the filet. I ordered the fish. Both sounded tantalizing. We were excited to receive our food. When were received our food, we were horrified by the presentation...still mooing? My husband ordered his filet medium. His... More

The menu is limited to pizza and I understand they've added a chef downstairs Hopefully it will improve.

This is really two very different restaurants. The cafe is fantastic. Casual, clubby, sophisticated. Try the polenta. It's amazing. Great pizza too. Go for lunch. For dinner you go upstairs to the beautiful dining room. We've been a few times and there have been misses, but overall you can't beat the refined experience and delicious Italian inspired dishes. You'll love... More

Our friends who live in the East Bay selected this restaurant. They convinced us that there really is a good restaurant in Oakland. Our waiter Daniel, a former restaurateur, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, and made excellent recommendations for wine pairings for our meal. Highlights of our dinner included the Rosemary pappardelle with rabbit as an appetizer. Our two... More

For the second year in a row, we celebrated the new year at Oliveto with a prix fixe dinner that included lobster bisque (wonderful flavor), tajarin (thin pasta) with black truffle butter, perfectly seared scallops, sliced ribeye, and a chocolate dessert that was scrumptious. Last year there was a live band downstairs in the cafe which made for a perfect... More

Nothing worth mentioning positive! We called shortly before arrival to check on availability and put our name down. We were never asked what sort of meal we prefer but upon arrival they sat us "downstairs" which is a more casual atmosphere. This part was ok, however after five minutes of looking through the short menu when our server finally arrived,... More

The menu includes pretty good food riffed on Italian classics, often in creative ways. Sometimes the menu descriptions are more creative than the dishes themselves: little gem lettuces were baugna cauda turned out to be a very close relative of Caesar salad.

Outstanding small inviting cafe. The best simple toast with orange housemade marmalade! The mini cinammon rolls are ten star. Tea is served in lovely small ceramic pots..so English and delicious. All menu items are superior. Lunch green simple salades and daily soups are terrific. .

Located between Oakland and Berkeley, it's a must when I even spend only a day at Berkeley. Good price compared to the quality of food, you can chose the friendly and cheaper brasserie at the flat floor or a more formal restaurant at the first floor, but you will never be disappointed! Natural ingredients, most of them directly imported from... More

I met family for lunch at the cafe. Everyone had a great dish. The polenta was especially good. Service was friendly, professional and prompt. I will definitely be returning!
