I wanted to give Dona Tomas a better than average rating. But I think that very good might be overstating things a bit. We were directed there because they served a lovely salmon dish. But on our night they didn't have it. The swordfish I had instead was a bit on the dry side. Good margarita, though. And fantastic chips... More

My friends and I come here fairly often and it is one of our favorite mexican food restaurants in the world! And it's right here in Oakland! First, the staff is always friendly and helpful. Efficient and willing to go out of their way to make your experience delightful; very professional. Second: the drinks. Outstand bar libations! They do terrific... More

Wonderful burritos and carne asada. Party of 5- everyone was very happy with their food. It does get very busy so either make a reservation or be ready to wait a while.

I found the food and ambiance just OK for a restaurant in this price range. The service was good. I have the impression that outdoor diners tend to rate Dona Tomas higher than I have, and we did dine inside. Unfortunately seating availability is luck of the draw.

I love this place! I have been here twice and the food is excellent. My fave drink is the Cuban margarita. The service is friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend the carnitas. If they have the sweet potato side dish called Comote, you must order it. It will melt your face, but in a good way :).

Service, food, and location all good. No complaints but nothing special, I would return in the summer since the patio area maybe positive. One problem could be parking.

Enjoyed Dona Tomas for the second time with friends over brunch. It's a small, cozy place to experience good Mexican cuisine. The latte was great and the dishes came out hot and tasty. When your finished with your meal, don't rush off. Either linger at Dona Tomas in their garden or be sure to go to Oakland's vibrant Temescal Alley... More

Met friends for dinner on a weeknight. Started with the very refreshing house margarita. Had the chile rellenos for my main course and enjoyed the spin on the usual. The staff was attentive without being overbearing.

I was pleasantly surprised by the sophisticated quality and taste of the food at Dona Tomas. I can only describe my eating experience as Nouveau Mexican for refined American palates. The service was great and the noise level low on a Friday night. I've dined at 4 star Mexican restaurants in Cancun,Tulum and New Mexico and would highly recommend this... More

This may be the last time we eat at what has been my favorite local restaurant. I adore their food. The menu hasn't changed much lately but the appetizers are inventive, the carnitas are superb, the halibut cheeks and salmon seviche perfect. The beer is cold and my husband enjoys the mescal tasting. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable... More
