Description: Dona Tomas is a special restaurant where you almost feel like you're at a lively villa in Mexico enjoying fresh squeezed lime margaritas in the courtyard patio or dining on the authentic regional Mexican cuisine in the main room or the crimson red bar room. With our seasonally changing menu and our love and respect for Mexican food and culture, we strive to present a culinary experience highlighting our favorite dishes from Mexico. These are often hard to find in American restaurants and it is our goal to update these classics with the bounty of what is available in the Bay Area, serving them in a fun atmosphere where the energy is always exciting. We use organic, local produce when available, sustainably raised beef, pork and chicken, authentic items like hard to find dried chiles, huitlacoche, verdalogas and much more. We pride ourselves on serving unusual and long forgotten dishes that we have tasted and recreated from our many journeys to Mexico.

What I love about Dona Tomas is that is not the typical Mexican restaurant. You know the ones....Canned sauces poured over enchiladas with bean and rice, and general lack of imagination or real vibrant flavors. Dona Tomas is none of these things. Instead you will get real beautiful dishes, with complex Oxacan styled sauces. I love the enchiladas because the... More

I really wanted this place to be good. It had sent out all the "right messages" about innovative Mexican food. Sadly it was simply a bust: indifferent quality, sloppy service, and frankly, inferior ingredients. I have had better fish tacos served from a truck. Quesadillas were tasteless. The mole sauce was decent, but served alongside were over cooked, nasty greens.... More

The food is creative and always delicious; however, the servers are not always the most attentive. Back patio is great for a sunny day, and the small party room/shed is functional for a larger group.

We enjoyed another delicious dinner at Dona Tomas. They change the menu up a little from time to time so it's always good to return and try something new. This time I had mole chicken enchiladas with plantains. It was delicious. I'll be back again soon.

We had a wonderful dinner here. It was fun to sit in a cozy corner by the window. The food was fantastic, and the service very good. It's easy to be enthusiastic about the excellent quality of this fine restaurant. Hope to go again sometime!

Every meal we have had here is divine. The menu is changed seasonally and all of the ingredients stand out because of their freshness. Love the mole chicken enchiladas and the pureed sweet potatoes are an absolute treat. Somehow the chefs even make the refried beans amazing - truly the best refried beans I've ever had. The carnitas are melt... More

Used to be a fan, own their cookbook. The staff have a lot of attitude , you'd think they were Le Bernadin !! When you treat your regular customers rudely... Bye. Try Tamarindo for a place owned and run by real Mexicans!!

The interpretation and preparation of Mexican inspired food is off the charts. You've never tasted a Chile Relleno like this I promise. Add to that excellent and friendly waitstaff, and it's a winner all around. Can't wait to go back

Been eating here since they opened. Very good food. Incredible cocktails. They helped pioneer the restaurant scene in the Temescal district of Oakland as will as in the uptown area (with Flora.) Parking in the mini-mall lot across the street. Piazola is next door, I'd eat at Dona instead! Get some chips and a drink at the bar while you... More
