Enjoyed our late lunch at this wonderful cafe and bar by the lake. Possibly the best Reuben I've had. Very friendly, attentive and relaxed staff.

This restaurant does not have even one vegan option on their menu (that's the bad news). The good news is that they are flexible enough to improvise and to create vegan options. Their food is good, but their drinks are a bit expensive.

My friends and I are always looking for new places to try so we decided to give Sidebar the taste test and the food was delicious! We ordered the Fried Pollack (tasty but a little dry), Cuban Pork Sandwich, Hamburger and Monte Carlo which were all good! And we saw the table next to us sharing a salad, some wine... More

My wife and I took our daughter out to dinner the other night. We were headed to the Grand Lake Kitchen but found it closed on Tuesday night, so we walked into Sidebar. A Big Mistake. My wife ordered a Portabello Mushroom Sandwich. What showed up was a tiny mushroom dwarfed by grilled bread(and not good bread) and a mixed... More

Four of us enjoyed dinner in a relaxed informal restaurant in downtown Oakland. Wines are pricey, but good quality. Two of us enjoyed hamburgers; two liked the salmon served on a bed of kale. All the meals were well prepared and tasty. Both the salads and entrees were generous portion sizes. Acoustics are decent which permits conversation at a normal... More

Consistently great food with fun decor. Wonderful for dinner or drinks (not many places are like that.) Was written up in the NY times review of 24 hours in Oakland. I think this is the best restaurant in oakland with a view of the lake.

This has been a great place, which we have gone to for years. Fun, relatively inexpensive food. The woman who greets and seats is wonderful. However the service is very lacking...once you order you really don't even have anyone to flag down because you rarely see that person again and the people who bring the food are doing this all... This restaurant bar is so cool and laid back. It could easily become your neighborhood hangout. The food is scrumptious, wines are sublime, atmosphere relaxed sophistication and the neighborhood so hip.

Entering Sidebar you will note the cheery atmosphere (and the noise level.) The menu is not vast - however it has a number of interesting entrees. He ordered the steak avec pomme frites - which everyone seemed to be ordering. Enjoyed appetizers and told the busboy to leave our salad. Therefore, our waitress assumed we were not ready for our... Went with a friend for a late dinner and drinks. The food was ok. There were little gnats flying around, I wasn't too pleased with that. However, the waitress was great. After we ate, we moved to the bar and the service was horrible. I guess the bartenders were preoccupied with other guests, we could hardly get a 2nd round... More
