Working at the nearby ice rink all weekend, so took a stroll over to have breakfast. Awesome surprise in the neighborhood. Diner mixed with punk atmosphere, loved the feel immediately. Great breakfast menu. Was sort of expecting "greasy spoon" food, but awesome, obviously freshly made food was brought instead. Good coffee for a diner. Had the southwestern omelette. The chorizo... I feel like this restaurant is only popular because it's the only food spot open late in that part of Oakland other than hotdog carts! This place is a corporatized version of a mom and pop diner, or a local "greasy spoon" on steroids. Before you settle for this place be sure to check out Nations Hamburgers on Broadway about... More

Heard from a friend about Rudy's and took the kids on a Saturday for lunch. Surprisingly, for downtown Oakland on a Saturday, this place was humming and we had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table, but the music overhead was cool and the kids got a kick looking at all of the Barbie dolls and other action... It's going to be plus one star for the name, based off a favorite Clash song. Then plus another star just for the ethos, as told by the action figure "strip mural" on their wall.... no matter who you are, you are all equal... That old punk ethos vibes throughout, with a bit of the bluebeat, two-tone era vibrating along... More

Saw it online and went before a show. Great people watching even if the food were marginal. However, we both had burgers that were OUTSTANDING. Perfectly cooked, with some of the best fries you've ever eaten. Crazy cool crowd throughout, and terrific Happy Hour specials. Loved it, would definitely return!

My friends and I went to Rudy's Can't Fail for Sunday brunch based on a recommendation from a friend who lives in San Francisco, and we were pleased with the food.  This is just a typical diner place and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Although we were there for brunch, half of us opted for the burgers, since they had... An absolute find! We're in our 50s, but we didn't feel uncool in such a hip place - all staff seemed to be tattooed! It has an edgy, rocker kind of vibe. Having said that, the background music is nice and low in volume allowing conversation as you eat. There are interesting things to look at, like a case containing... More

Casual relaxed unpretentious. Good service good food and decent prices. The cafe is located in a revitalizing part of Oakland uptown close to the new bars and restaurants but it is one of the few places in that area that serves breakfast, lunch dinner and beyond ( it is open until 2 am). Check it out and you won't be... More

We ate here 3 days in a row. Needless to say, we enjoyed the food, it was very reasonably priced and it was convenient to our hotels. It was about a 10 minute walk and in what looks to be a somewhat rough part of town but we never had any issues. I hope to visit again in the future!

I have a ritual with one of my adult sons: we meet periodically for breakfast at Rudy's, since it's near his place of work. That will tell you a lot: we like it enough to keep going back. Food is delicious, service has always been very good, there is parking (incredible in Emeryville), and they serve tea in a real... More
