This restaurant has great American food. Hot wings were amazing, followed by a perfectly cooked steak. Out waiter was so friendly and helpful. The manager even gave food and money to street Kid that came in asking for change. A lovely bunch of guys. Would definitely recommend.

We had very good server whose name (we think) was Topher. He gave us the history of the name “Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café” and perspective on the neighborhood and on the Fox Theatre next door. He also brought us two salads, one house (regular-sized $6) and one chef (regular-sized $6), and one side of sourdough toast ($2). Rudy’s is named... More

My husband and I are diner lovers. Not because we love cheap food, but because we like the no-pretense, home-cooked vibe. Rudy's is definitely a hipster attraction, but to be sure, it's because of the food! We ate both lunch and breakfast there, and it was excellent all around. Between my husband and I, we tried the Santa Fe burger,... More

Fantastic unadulterated burger. Grilled cheese and tomato like you remember from childhood. Mountains and mountains of fries...too many, really. Very good vanilla milkshake. 80s music, too. Can't go wrong, really!!

My girlfriend took me here after talking about how good the food was and how economical the prices were. So we went there and I had low expectations because of how she described the pricing. Who knew the prices would not be a relative example of the quality of the food and the amount of food you get? The food... More

We had a great benedict here on a nice weekend. Convenient to BART and not too overcrowded mid-morning. They have a nice brunch drink selection as well. The tables are very cool and have great collectables encased in them.

While visiting my family we had breakfast at their downtown location. The portions were tasty and of good size for all in our party. My granddaughter enjoyed pancakes and sausage while I had their tasty French toast. The service was quick and attentive as they filled my coffee cup whenever it was half full. This is a very nice family... More

We stopped at Rudy's before the Empire of the Sun concert at the Fox Theater in Oakland on a Thursday evening. Two of us ordered sandwiches and two had the Mac and Cheese. The beer was pretty good but the Mac and Cheese was not quite average. The dish is called Combat Mac and Cheese but it should be called... More

I love this place for a filling breakfast. They have several good vegetarian options. Love the pancakes and soyrizo scramble.

If you have business, errands or friends in the area, and want a decent breakfast or burger, this is the ticket. It ain't great, nor expectional, but it's done the job in the past, when I had a taping session at Expressions College, or when my wife and I were in the area shopping and were starving. I think I've... More
