The Trappist in Old Oakland has decor reminiscent of a European abbey church. There are 2 bars, which provide lovely specialties on draft, all served in the proper glass shape. The beer list has mostly domestic brews, and it is difficult to make a choice There is some outdoor seating and daily lunch specials. A nice spot to stop to... More

Tiny place in Old Oakland - loved it! An interesting selection of beers and a knowledgeable bartender helped me choose the right beer for me. Also tried the Reuben sandwich from the bar menu and it was terrific! Walk all the way through the bar and there are picnic tables out back on a pleasant terrace - really lovely place... More

I just can't say enough about how fantastic the selection of beers from all around the world is at The Trappist in Oakland. If only we'd been able to drink even more. Lots of fun to go with a big group so you can taste lots of different beers. Just loved it. Wish we'd been able to order from a... More

I've been to The Trappist twice in the last few days and will miss it dearly as I travel back home. It's easy walking from the convention center in downtown Oakland. It's a narrow beer bar whose collection of suds runs the eclectic and "I've never heard of this before". We tried six types and they were all amazing. The... More

There are A LOT of beers to try. There is a front and back bar, each tends to serve different things and the back bar is not always open. There is plenty of seating although it can get pretty busy. They also have a decent menu for food!

I'm sure the beer and food at this fairly popular place is wonderful. However, my friends and i from all over the Bay Area in Northern California, decided to go there after reading about their highly publicized Japan Beer Fest event. We got there at least 30 mins before the start of the event and it took us at least... More

The Trappist is a great place to enjoy a good drink in a classy atmosphere. It boasts a great selection of beer, which means you have more than enough choices. But if you still don't know what to go for, the staff can provide you with some recommendations. The place is not only about beer, food is also available. The... More

I walked by it on my way from Jack London Square - trouble was I was looking for it. Make sure you find this funky little slice of coolness. Friendly staff, comfy vibe and good eats. The drinks are good if you like Belgian styles. If not they have plenty of other handles. The grilled cheese was everything it is... More

For the past 5 years, I have been indulging my passion in consuming delicious craft beer. If there are tasty snacks to boot, well then that it just a little slice of heaven isn't it. The Trappist has both of these things contained in the perfect environment to kick back and enjoy some Belgian brew on a cold East Bay... More

You may choose either of two doors to enter Trappist, one to the front bar, the other to the back bar - one hopping and loud, the other cozy and conversational. We opted for the latter, but after a few beers, I can't remember which it was. No matter, it will be readily apparent. We entered an old world space... More
