We tried The Trappist on a recent visit to Oakland with a friend who is a beer enthusiast. He was in heaven with the assortment of beers avaialble. The rest of us were left picking for something suitable - for example the wine served is with a choice between red or white and from a box. They do not serve... More

We visited The Trappist last night as a party of four, a busy Friday night when most locations in Downtown Oakland were full to capacity. We managed to grab the last available table and settled in for a couple of hours of Belgian and local beers and a bit of food. My wife and I just completed a six month... More

At Trappist Provisions, they like beer too, so go and geek out with the knowledgeable staff. They have options to-go, and a great selection you can enjoy at the place. It's very small, so try stopping in at odd hours.

I attended this bar with some friends on a recent trip. The selection of beers is excellent, if a little pricey. The atmosphere was excellent. A great place to enjoy one or two good beers and a relaxed conversation with friends.

The Trappist in Old Oakland has decor reminiscent of a European abbey church. There are 2 bars, which provide lovely specialties on draft, all served in the proper glass shape. The beer list has mostly domestic brews, and it is difficult to make a choice There is some outdoor seating and daily lunch specials. A nice spot to stop to... More

Tiny place in Old Oakland - loved it! An interesting selection of beers and a knowledgeable bartender helped me choose the right beer for me. Also tried the Reuben sandwich from the bar menu and it was terrific! Walk all the way through the bar and there are picnic tables out back on a pleasant terrace - really lovely place... More

I just can't say enough about how fantastic the selection of beers from all around the world is at The Trappist in Oakland. If only we'd been able to drink even more. Lots of fun to go with a big group so you can taste lots of different beers. Just loved it. Wish we'd been able to order from a... More

I've been to The Trappist twice in the last few days and will miss it dearly as I travel back home. It's easy walking from the convention center in downtown Oakland. It's a narrow beer bar whose collection of suds runs the eclectic and "I've never heard of this before". We tried six types and they were all amazing. The... More

There are A LOT of beers to try. There is a front and back bar, each tends to serve different things and the back bar is not always open. There is plenty of seating although it can get pretty busy. They also have a decent menu for food!

I'm sure the beer and food at this fairly popular place is wonderful. However, my friends and i from all over the Bay Area in Northern California, decided to go there after reading about their highly publicized Japan Beer Fest event. We got there at least 30 mins before the start of the event and it took us at least... More
