The food here is truly a work of art. The chefs take great care to present the dishes as works of art to be enjoyed visually while still tasting delicious. If you are looking for a big meal or looking to be full this may not be the place for you. There are 12 courses but the portions are small... More

One if the most stunning meals our family of four has enjoyed. Didn't miss a beat through 7 perfectly balanced courses. We all loved it.

My wife and I had the $85 set menu with wine pairings for our anniversary. As others have said, it's an experience but we would not return. There were eight courses plus a couple of hors d' oeuvres and a palate float before dessert or cheese. The first four courses were delicious with the wine, however they consisted of one... More

Went to Commis after having an unforgettable meal at Meadowood, and would have to say that for the tremendous difference in price between the two, this is a real find! We sat at the Chef's table (highly recommended, only six seats), and watched the team of about six chefs orchestrate the evening meal for everyone - often with the aid... More

Enjoyed the chef's table last night. The establishment is set up in a manner that allows the patrons to experience the food preparation. Watching the "attention-to-detail" that goes into each meticulously presented dish ads to the setting. Note to self you DO NOT have to drink all the wine associated w/ each dish. It reminds me of Grant Achatz’s Alinea... More

As an experience, I'd give Commis five stars. It's a relaxed, very leisurely meal, with lots of creativity in the (mostly) good to excellent dishes. As for the food itself, four stars. As I said, good to excellent. But by no means anything near one of the best meals my wife and I have ever had. And certainly not memorable.... More

If you're impressed with the idea of being served cold bland profiteroles on a bed of stones, then this is a convenient place for you to dispose of your extra cash. Suitable patrons will enjoy dining in an atmosphere expectant of your awe upon your being served some tasteless pulverized root vegetable, or some dungeness crab in ruinous combination with... More

I love that dining at Commis is free of choices. You just show up and get the selected menu for the evening. Every course we had was beautifully plated and perfect seasoned. Given the high level of food and service I would have expected out bill to be twice what it was. I don't make it to Oakland often, but... More

My husband and I have tried several Michelin star restaurants, and Commis ranks at the top. The 7 courses with wine pairings were excellent. Presentation was amazing and food incredibly delicious. Each dish and wine is explained in detail as they are presented. All the courses were wonderful, but one of my favorites was the egg with potato. The restaurant... More

Normally when one thinks of Oakland one does not think of gourmet dining; San Francisco certainly, Oakland perhaps for ribs, but not fine cuisine. Well Commis was fabulous. Each dish a delicacy, beautifully artistically presented. The interior is is nothing to rave about but THE FOOD IS FABULOUS !
