We'd eaten here before but forgot about it, since we only visit Oakland, and our daughter doesn't live that close to Jack London Square. I don't know how we forgot...this is definitely a restaurant we'll go to again. Their version of French Fries are too good to pass up. All the food was great, the portions very reasonable. I'd recommend... More

Met old friends for dinner. Impromptu, did not have reservations. Arrived to a sparse indoor crowd. Told that they were booked for reservations inside, but the heated patio was available. Chilly nite. But, we decided to go for it. Gorgeous view. Right on the Oakland estuary. Peaceful. Fantastic sunset. Patio heaters not all that effective,... nonetheless. A server came and... More

During a visit to the Bay Area earlier this month, we had the opportunity to have brunch at Jack London Square in the Bocanova Grill. It was a new experience for us to order entrees and salads and desserts that we shared among four. Every bite was delicious--fresh, flavorful, cooked to perfection, interesting! I would highly recommend this restaurant. It... More

This is a great place on the watefront in Oakland, Jack London Square. I returned a week later because the food was great and the vibe was festive. While Jack London Sq still lacks pedestrian traffic, the restaurants are alive and well.

My husband and I have been to Bocanova many times, and we hope to go there many more. We love to bring guests from out of town. The first time we went there was after we came back from a wonderful trip to Peru and Equador. We were so impressed with the food we had there, we thought we'd try... More

Bocanova has been a favorite for quite a while. Interesting menu that changes seasonally. Well prepared and presented. Lots of favorites on the menu - try the quinoa salad and the ribs. Delicious. First Thursday of each month features a owner Rick Hackett's First Thursday supper - a special prix fixe menu with wine pairings included. Bocanova also offers a... More

This is one of my favorites in Oakland. Best to enjoy "tapas" style - order a bunch of appetizers or entrees and share. The "fried peppers" - usually shishito are fantastic. I can eat an entire plate myself. The papas fritas (fried potatoes) are excellent, too. They do great job with quinoa salads, too !

This is a great summertime spot, a good looking, sleek restaurant that consistently kicks out interesting food from its kitchen. Large and sometimes loud but a great after work spot for the 30 something crowd.

In the summer, you cannot beat the view and the Happy Hour menu of bar bites and beverages. Grazing is a practiced form. I've also eaten on the bar when off to a party/event where food maybe iffy. Service, food quality, presentation is consistent. Lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, Jack London Square - which now has many food... More

This is a beautiful restaurant but we were seated in what appeared to be an "overflow" room next to a large and very noisy party. The portions were very small but quite tasty. The sunchoke parsnip soup was good, as was the lobster shrimp ceviche, well flavored and tasty. However my daughter ordered the flat iron steak for $27 and... More
