Best view of the lake and decent happy hour

Went their to listen to a friend play jazz as I hadn't been there before I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to try it., The views are breathtaking and the building is grand. I have been coming here for the Y's yearly volunteer dinner and the food is always excellent and the view is fantastic! I always look forward to celebrating here. The food that we had is not on the menu so I suppose it was a special menu for our party. We had a choice of beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian.... More

Enjoyed a business dinner here just by chance. My colleague works nearby so we were looking for something close. We were pleasantly surprised! The building alone is worth visiting. The restaurant is on the dance floor adjacent to the bar. Our table was on the stage. We had an unobstructed view of Lake Merritt - spectacular! The food was much... More

I found the Terrace Room by accident while sitting by Lake Merritt. It is slightly hidden but if you look up you will see the bank of windows and tables. It is a quiet and roomy restaurant that has excellent service and good food. I also have been to their happy hour (Monday through Thursday) that has a variety of... More

Well, they're consistent! I could repeat the July 2013 review word for word. The view is great. and the interior is just too 1930s for words. Service was friendly. About the food, the less said the better.

This is a beautiful restaurant in what is now a senior living facility (!) but still has the charm of an old art deco hotel, at least in the public areas. The view of Lake Merritt is outstanding, as is the ambience - the decor, the big band, and the handful of patrons who danced. But the food was terrible... More

Met Easter Sunday morning with family after the Saturday confirmation of my niece who's attending UC Berkley---and they found this great little place called The Terrace Room in the bottom of an old art deco hotel overlooking Lake Merritt in Oakland. The food was outstanding, as was the setting and atmosphere and our waiter Mark did a pretty terrific job... More

This is one of the most romantic restaurants in the East Bay. It is an absolutely beautiful room in an old art deco hotel (now a senior residence) with excellent views of Lake Merritt to watch the gondolas, dragonboats, and rowing shells go by. It is elegant but not snobby. The menu is more casual than one would expect in... More

This review is for lobster fans only. The Friday night special is a keeper. You can get a lobster on a plate, accompanied by corn on the cob and some small boiled potatoes for $20. The corn is nothing special, neither are the potatoes. But, the lobster, wow. We are talking about a big one - a pound to a... More
