I've eaten here several times with friends, and we have never been other than enthusiastic. The menu and wine list are comparatively small, but so well selected. The dishes change constantly, with the focus on local and fresh ingredients. The style is simple, the results often complex - California with bistrot simplicity and full flavors. The place is big and... More

I have been in in town to visit several times and always go here. From the starters, especially the cheddar, to the deserts you will not be dissapointed. Being from New York, where there are restaurants on every corner, this place is at the top of the list.

In town visiting a friend who suggested we go. Ordered a few drinks and the cheddar. If you like cheese this is a must have... It is so good!!! It was the kind of delicious cheese that you would eat a block of and not feel guilty afterwards. I had the tequila drink and I will say if you don't... More

The butter lettuce salad -- apparently a more or less permanent fixture on the menu -- was to die for. Roasted corn with some marvelous combination of herbs, and an heirloom tomato salad - extraordinary. The featured paella: meh. But maybe that's just me being a paella traditionalist. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

I reviewed Camino in 2011 and have been back a number of times, including several recently. Of 3 recent visits for dinner with groups of friends, 2 of those meals were outstanding. Great service and the food enjoyed by all our guests. The best dishes tend to be the starters and mid-size dishes whereas the entrees can be a mixed... More

Camino, 3917 Grand Ave, Oakland, California 94610, tel. 510-547-5035, http://www.caminorestaurant.com/. In the NT Times article Mark Bittman talked about Camino restaurant: http://www.caminorestaurant.com/ and it sounded so fabulous we made it our goal to go there. The Zagat rating for the food was 24 (very good to excellent) and we would agree with that (rather than Mark Bittman’s ecstasies). Claudia was... More

We were a party of 6. The communal seating did not bother us but it seems ultimately gimmicky given all else. We had the smoked quail appetizer (okay), a sheep milk ricotta appetizer which was blah and so small we thought an amuse bouche for the table, the king salmon appetizer (good), the lamb entree (salty), squid dish (good) and... This was our first visit to Camino. The servers were helpful and nice. The cocktails were unusual and refreshing. I especially liked the salads. They were so fresh with delicious. Really enjoyed the fresh herbs and vegetables. The large room is pretty noisy though we did find everyone to be friendly and pleasant. Parking can be difficult but that is... More

Really amazing. Went there for NYE 2014 with my daughter -- it was the best meal that I ever had. Had to go back 2 days later for dinner with friends -- again--best meal. Super fresh ingredients and approach to food. This is by far my favorite restaurant -- been from Paris to New York to Dubai to San Francisco... More

This is a first rate place to eat in Oakland. They have an open kitchen. There are three massively long tables, but it still feels private. The food uses very fresh, seasonal ingredients. The drinks are creative. The wine list is usually strong, and changes a lot.
