We saw this place on Yelp and thought we would try yesterday. It is new but the chef was the lead chef at Antonello's, our favorite restaurant in Orange County. We were NOT disappointed! Carpaccio di Cinghiale, which was excellent. We also had the Trofie al Ragu' di Coniglio which is pasta with rabbit ragu. The pasta was homemade and the ragu was different but really flavorful. We never would have thought of rabbit as an entree, but here we would order it again!

Loved it!

Had the Salsiccia starter, the Linguini seafood pasta main, and the Tiramisu dessert. Very nice and solid Italian place.

I found out about this place by their coffee/pastry shop (Barone Bottega) two doors down in the same strip mall. On the coffee shops counter was a menu which I was reading. I liked what I saw and was considering coming back for dinner when suddenly the employee said "that's for the restaurant next door". I came back for dinner,... More

I had heard a rumour that the coffee, cafe, was quite good here. I visited around lunchtime and ordered a double shot flat white. Final product was more a latte as it was considerably milky and had no coffee flavour whatsoever. I didn't have courage to return to shop and express my disappointment I just don't go back to restaurant... More

This place was a little hard to find even though it is right down the road from the Airport and Hilton. Walking in you forget that you are in an upper scale strip mall setting. The food and staff are both great. Sauces/Food especially the Veal Scaloppini, are awesome. Big wine list but not so much for us Beer/IPA snobs.... More

This was an excellent "find". Wanted something close to John Wayne airport, so looked up this restaurant. Cozy atmosphere, but elegant, perfect for a business lunch or romantic dinner. Linen tables, excellent service and home made Italian cooking. Not large portions, but the delicious bread and pesto spread takes care of that. Not inexpensive, but worth the extra $$$.

Hotel reception recommended this place. It took two tours of the area on foot to find but I'm glad I made the effort. My appetiser was homemade sausages on spinach - wow!! My main was simple - gnocchi in a tomato sauce - delicious. Coupled with great Italian red beer it was a treat. The subdued lighting would suggest a... More

I often take customers and business colleagues to Il Barone for lunch. The food is always good and I recommend the daily specials. They are usually the most tasty appetizers and main dishes on the menu. The service is good and the owners are delightful. One word of caution--if you order wine, check the pricing when you receive your bill... More

the food here is superb the attitude of the waiter horrible. Asked questions about the wines and got nothing but attitude and crappy service the rest of the night. The food is worth it though.

Craving some Italian and we got a treat!! Great wine, great food, great service and truly, from the outside you would not think anything of the place. It is a gem in Newport Beach. And this is from someone who goes to Italy every year.

While I was attending a conference in Newport Beach a group of us decided to try the restaurant. Since this is a small restaurant it took a few minutes to seat our party of 5 because it was busy that night. I was very happy that we found them. The food of service were both excellent. The hostess and the... More
