Description: We saw this place on Yelp and thought we would try yesterday. It is new but the chef was the lead chef at Antonello's, our favorite restaurant in Orange County. We were NOT disappointed! Carpaccio di Cinghiale, which was excellent. We also had the Trofie al Ragu' di Coniglio which is pasta with rabbit ragu. The pasta was homemade and the ragu was different but really flavorful. We never would have thought of rabbit as an entree, but here we would order it again!

let's get real. Italian food is made from real good and honest ingredients. This place is trying really hard to get that on your plate but with time, fame and reputation, it is likely that the chef becomes lazy while his wife greedy. The meal we had was good but nowhere near matching the price we paid for. As foodies,... More

I love Italian food and this one is a winner! I had a salad to start - burrata cheese, vine ripened tomatoes, and fresh beets ($18) and then had the seafood linguine $32. Wonderful!! Food was perfectly cooked with a nice blend of flavors. I walked in by myself at 6 pm without a reservation and the owner put me... More

Exceptional and personable! Reservations are a must! Family owned and filled with great amount of passion and love for serving their patrons and for their food! Location is in the Mecca of OC, found in a very unassuming location(you may need your GPS). It was Very memorable Birthday!❤️

We had a small business dinner party at Il Barone. It was fantastic, the food was delicious and the service was amazing. You can tell the food is made with love and it is definitely served with a smile. On my next trip to Newport Beach, I will be back.

This is a quality restaurant recognized by the elite of Orange County. Yet it is tucked away in a little strip mall in Newport Beach, CA. There is no fancy fanfare here, and albeit clean, you are not in an intimidating fine dining place. However, fine dining it is. The food is prepared by Franco Barrone team. Franco was Antonello's... Sometimes when an outstanding chef leaves a fine restaurant and opens his own, it does not work out. This fine restaurant is an exception to the rule. The outstanding couple who own this restaurant are a great team with his cooking skills and her administrative/customer service skills. Their staff is well trained and friendly. The food is ALWAYS well prepared,... More

We just finished another spectacular lunch. The staff is friendly and inviting, the food is wonderful. A little pricy for lunch but worth the extra $$$. I had the wild boar today and it was excellent. The tomato soup, is probably the best I've had. This place is a little hard to find but once you've been there you won't... More

We went here on recommendation of a friend with a party of five. The place is very unobtrusive from the exterior, and not real easy to find, but centrally located near the John Wayne airport. When I entered I was immediately greeted by the owner, and as I was the first arrived, elected to have a glass of wine at... More

This is a new restaurant on Balboa Blvd and I hope they make it. We were greeted as soon as we entered for lunch, the service was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The owner was making dough and looked like he was having fun with it. Our pizza came amazingly fast - the homemade crust was... More

I have been going to Il Barone almost since the day it opened, having eaten at Antonello's and actually taken a couple of cooking classes from Chef Franco. I have seen the restaurant grow and change, the décor has matured, and the artwork is modern and understated. I have taken many friends there, and my special waiter is Nadal, who... More
