The host was surprisingly relaxed about the fact that part of our party arrived before the rest. The ambiance is really nice--we ate on a terrace overlooking the bay. New England clam chowder was excellent. I had the Sand Dabs which were fresh and local but slightly overcooked and (in my personal view) a little over sauced--the mustard/caper sauce overwhelmed... We drove to Newport Beach on our way to Irvine to fly home. We did a little googling & came up with this place! I had Oysters on the half shell which were fantastic! My husband had calamari which he loved. For lunch I had San Francisco cioppini & it was wonderful. My husband had the Fisherman's platter & he... More

The location is great as was sitting outside but after that... nothing great. There were 5 of us. The drinks were mediocre. The poke martini was nicely presented - but had a puddle of soy sauce in the bottom. Our 2 fisherman platters were cold when they arrived. Grilled fish was decent, paella was ok. So overall, very average- we... More

This is a solid spot for seafood without all the pretense and cost of other places. We had 6 in our party and had a wide range of items ordered and everyone was happy. I had sand dabs which are not the most exotic of fishes but I enjoy them when the are done right and Bluewater nailed it. High... More

This place was once probably a hot spot considering its location, but now it's tired in many ways. The hostesses could care less and most of the waitstaff are below average. The (sub par) food is served lukewarm, which is appropriate considering the entire place is just that. Prime real estate keeps this place in business. Don't bother. Many better... More

This is the third time we have tried the Blue Water Grill restaurant. The first two times were in Catalina; both times they did not have items that were on the menu that we wanted to order and the service is way too uppity. We are regulars on the island...but will not go back to this restaurant again. As for... More

When in Newport....dine with the locals! One of our older restaurants here in town...used to be called Delaney's! (many still call it that). Pull your boat in and dock & dine~ tucked away in Lido Village, this is where you find some of the best seafood dishes and great atmosphere. On a cold winter night....head on in for some Chowder... The atmosphere is good, the service too, and the variety of great seafood is huge. We have special occasion parties there, usually arriving by car but occasionally by boat. The facilities for a 34' sailboat are not always available, however.
