Basilic continues year after year to offer delicious Swiss/French fare. Only about eight or so tables make up the dining room, so walk-ins without reservations may at times find the restaurant full. Operated by the owner couple, one is assured consistent quality from one visit to next. From French onion soup for a starter over our entrées to apple tarts... More

This is one of the best and finest Swiss Restaurant ever ! Seating is limited. It is better to make a reservation ahead of time. The Chef and Owner Bernard is fabulous. If you like cheese Try Raclette itis a typical Swiss Dish for the wintertime. Love it ! Very special place! Romantic!!

This is an excellent small restaurant on the way to the beach on Balboa's water front. The cuisine is based on France and Switzerland. The service is quiet and efficient. The dishes are all good and all carefully prepared. Duck breast was delicious as was the vichyssoise. The veal was cut up and cooked in a sauce. Wine choices are... More

Was at Basilic several years ago and remember it as being excellent and it is still excellent. Great food, service in a very small space with nice atmosphere. All four of us were very happy with our choices and the waiter was super professional and unobtrusive.

I stumbled upon Basilic by accident and was glad I did. Each person in my party thought their food was outstanding. There are only about seven tables so this would be great for a business meal or intimate dinner. I will definitely return.

We had heard about Basilic but assumed that due to the small size we would never get it. One evening when strolling on Balboa Island we passed the restaurant and asked the owner / chef if he could accommodate us. He did and the experience was memorable. Food was exceptional, wines were very reasonably priced and the service was quite... More

I read reviews on tripadvisor and assumed this was far from a tourist trap and quite special. Yes, it is a bit small and just a little cramped, but it does feel like something authentic out of France or Switzerland -- at least in my imagination. We had reservations and arrived early but our table was ready and hostess (maybe... More

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and we never would have found it otherwise. It's located in the little hamlet of Balboa beach and it is like walking into a French tavern from the past. The small dining area is quant and the staff so friendly. We all ordered from the special menu and had the monkfish, beef and... More

I actually lived 5 years in Switzerland and the style of cooking is pretty Americanized and has almost nothing to do with real Swiss style. The quality is ok but my pepper steak was not boosting my sences and was not served as ordered. The restaurant is cozy but the space you get for a table with 10 is very... More

If you're in Newport Beach with all the Lamborghini's, MB's and Bentley's, you expect it's going to cost you to eat. Basilic does not go against the grain as to costs, but they do provide an intimate (7 tables max) setting and superb food. Call ahead to have them prepared to cork your bottle, otherwise the wine list runs to... More
