Very good.....but not great overall

Had dinner with three friends recently. We loved the appetizers and the French onion soup was terrific. The main courses were hit or miss. Two of my friends had veal and raved about it. I had the filet and it was very average. The other person in our party had a seafood dish and didn't say... read more

Cozy, traditional, charming place on Balboa Island. Step inside and you'll feel as if you've left So Cal for a long established, quaint, tiny European restaurant. Top notch food, great attentive service. There are many good reasons this place has flourished for many years, all readily apparent after your first meal. By far the best food on the island.

This charming, tiny (only about 8 tables), very European restaurant was our total fave in Newport Beach. We shared the raclette cheese appetizer. My coq a vin was fantastic. My husband had the fish special and loved it. We shared a chocolate meringue dessert. Every little detail was perfect. Attentive service. Cozy and romantic atmosphere. Small but very appealing menu

This is a wonderful, intimate evening spot for a beautiful french meal. Wonderful classics like Blanquette de Veau and Coq Au Vin as well as great steaks, and lamb chops. The pate was amazing, service was very attentive, and for my birthday night with the family is was the perfect celebration.

Four of us dined here and were more than pleased with our experience. Started with raclette for the table, followed by blue crab appetizer, heirloom tomato salad, and house green salad. All were fresh and tasty. For entrees, we ordered coq au vin, duck, corvina bass, and filet mignonette. We shared 2 desserts, the tart tartin and chocolate pecan pie.... More

Been here several times. Yesterday I had the best filet mignon I've EVER had, including some very fancy restaurants. The duck was also quite good, and just complex enough to set it apart from others we've experienced. The only down side was the onion soup, good in itself but why do restaurants serve it so hot it can't be eaten... More

Basilic continues year after year to offer delicious Swiss/French fare. Only about eight or so tables make up the dining room, so walk-ins without reservations may at times find the restaurant full. Operated by the owner couple, one is assured consistent quality from one visit to next. From French onion soup for a starter over our entrées to apple tarts... More

This is one of the best and finest Swiss Restaurant ever ! Seating is limited. It is better to make a reservation ahead of time. The Chef and Owner Bernard is fabulous. If you like cheese Try Raclette itis a typical Swiss Dish for the wintertime. Love it ! Very special place! Romantic!!

This is an excellent small restaurant on the way to the beach on Balboa's water front. The cuisine is based on France and Switzerland. The service is quiet and efficient. The dishes are all good and all carefully prepared. Duck breast was delicious as was the vichyssoise. The veal was cut up and cooked in a sauce. Wine choices are... More

Was at Basilic several years ago and remember it as being excellent and it is still excellent. Great food, service in a very small space with nice atmosphere. All four of us were very happy with our choices and the waiter was super professional and unobtrusive.
