My favorite restaurant in Newport Beach!!

This is Newport's best kept secret. Whenever I have special visitors or celebrating a Birthday, Basilic it my first choice. It has such a European atmosphere serving the best food around. The only drawback is getting a reservation... Well worth every penny.

My wife surprised me with a dinner at Basilic on Balboa Island. An early 5:30 dinner after work. We lucked out and found a parking spot almost in front of this 8 table gem. Plan on looking for a parking spot. We were the first of their 5:30 seating. Wine only but a had a nice French red and my... More

Balboa Island has a quaint area full of small boutiques and restaurants. I found Basilic after a few searches online and was interested in the Swiss/French blend of cuisine. It had a cute look from the outside, covered in vines, and the interior had no more than a handful of tables for seating. For food and drink, I chose the... More

The last time we ate there was right before foie gras was banned in 2012. We had such good times and good food. Just came back tonight with some friends to taste foie gras and boy, were we disappointed. Seared foie gras in strawberry was NOT fresh and had a bitter taste. The dish was served in a hollow plate... More

This charming place is the Real Deal with authentic, yet innovative twists on traditional French bistro cuisine. It is a small resto with a delightful ambience . Be sure to book in advance. The staff is knowledgable regarding the menu options and wine list. The wines showcase French choices with many very affordable bottles including some unusual and unique wines.... More

A Swiss friend brought us to Basilic the first time. He loves it and so do we. This is a tiny intimate restaurant with really good food. Hint- they serve raclette in the winter.

Had dinner with three friends recently. We loved the appetizers and the French onion soup was terrific. The main courses were hit or miss. Two of my friends had veal and raved about it. I had the filet and it was very average. The other person in our party had a seafood dish and didn't say much about it. So... More

Cozy, traditional, charming place on Balboa Island. Step inside and you'll feel as if you've left So Cal for a long established, quaint, tiny European restaurant. Top notch food, great attentive service. There are many good reasons this place has flourished for many years, all readily apparent after your first meal. By far the best food on the island.

This charming, tiny (only about 8 tables), very European restaurant was our total fave in Newport Beach. We shared the raclette cheese appetizer. My coq a vin was fantastic. My husband had the fish special and loved it. We shared a chocolate meringue dessert. Every little detail was perfect. Attentive service. Cozy and romantic atmosphere. Small but very appealing menu
