Visiting NewPort many times we have never stopped to go into Avila's El Ranchito. The small cozy restaurant has always had people standing outside when we've passed by which is a very good sign. We stopped by with a party of seven (three adults and four children). This was on a Tuesday afternoon in January and the place was dead. That was to our advantage because we were LAVISHED with attention and service. It was like we were family. The food was excellent, especially the soup (chicken and rice) and the carne asada tacos.... more

We ate at the Newport Beach location (there's a number of these, a small chain) and it was quite good. Three adults left full and happy for $42 + tip. The place has a definite bar feel, and it's a bit confusing when you first get there - three entrances, and at two, you have to figure out which one... more

There are I think four of these and all ran by a different brother and one sister. This one at this address is the BEST and good outside seating. Go in the summertime. more
