My family used to love to spend time around the Newport Pier (checking out the Dorry boat catch) and then head over to the Crab Cooker for a Blue Plate special. When I lived on the Balboa Peninsula in college, I was a regular. now I live in Tustin just a few miles from their second location. My... read more

The end all, beat all, best fish restaurant anywhere. The Newport Beach location was the first, but they have added other locations. None has the character of this one, where you wait on the sidewalk next to the parked cars, in order of putting your name on the list, no reservations allowed yuppie. The food is ocean fresh, lobster and... More

There is such a thing as resting on your laurels and Crab Cooker is at that point. There is a story that they once even had Richard Nixon wait in line. They still do a good job on chowder and the grilled fresh fish plate, but there is plenty of competition for that menu in Orange County anymore. Nostalgia (40... More

Rustic, vintage, flea market decor. Great service. Pretty good food. The wine comes in tiny little plastic cups. The clam chowder was really tasty.

Started going to The Crab Cooker over forty years ago when we took our kids to the beach on weekends. It's been about fifteen years since our last visit ( no longer live in So Calif) and it is still our favorite Newport Beach restaurant. If you like fish, this is the place. The emphasis is just good grilled fish.... More

My local favorite go have fish. I have the light eaters for less than $10 a couple of times a week. When I really want something that is very special we go for the king crag. OH gosh this is fresh. We sometimes find ourselves eating the clam chowder and fresh shrimp outside on the benches. This is a favorite... More

You pay a lot for 3rd rate atmosphere- diner setting, plastic drinking cups. The worst thing are the old servers who treat you like they are doing you a favor. How this place has lasted this long I'll never know. Food is just average!

This place was highly recommended on trip advisor. We were very disappointed. The crab cakes were average, the potatoe dish was thick like glue, swordfish wasn't very flavorful. We had a glass of wine and it was served in a communion glass. So disappointed. Honestly if u are tempted to go in - reverse!

If you have the opportunity to be in Orange County be sure & make time for the Crab Cooker. We 1st visited in 1984 days before the LA Summer Olympics - we were pleased that nothing has changed. They serve the same homemade oyster crackers, chowder (Manhattan Style), bread sticks, rounds of bread & the best simple seafood from their... More

We went and the food was good, just nothing i would bother coming back for. The decor was hodgepodge, which was neat. It is very minimal, with plastic cups, paper plates and plastic utensils. So for that type of eating experience, the price did not reflect it. Service was slow without it even being close to full. No free refills... More
