My wife and I were passing through Newport Beach, California, on a recent vacation, and a cousin had recommended that we stop at the Crab Cooker for lunch, and we did. This restaurant was originally a bank, but converted into the existing restaurant in the mid 1950s. What this facility lacked in glamour, it made up for in service and... More

We visited once and it really did not appeal to us at all. The food was ok, the smoke fish was bad (that is something that no one in newport seems to get right) the food is served on paper plates with plastic utensils... The line is always long, but that happens at every location on the peninsula. With some... More

It's in a nice spot, cool building, crowded, but seated immediately. Service good, clam chowder and fish were good, but side dishes were not. This place is accepting to everyone (babies, etc) which is fantastic if you need that.

The halibut and crab were good. They only had Manhattan clam chowder which was too bad. The thing that really bothered me was that we spent a few hundred dollars on dinner and I ate with dollar store quality plastic cutlery, paper plates and the alcoholic beverages came in thimble sized glasses and our sodas had no refills. The restaurant... More

This was a very popular place with the locals and tourists. It gets busy, but they seat you pretty quickly. Very casual with paper or plastic ware, and the food is good. A good price for fish, so that is probably why it is so popular.

Having lived in Orange County for 10+ years now, I thought it was time to try this Newport Beach landmark restaurant. Being from the Chesapeake Bay/Washington DC area, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to Crabs. I wouldn’t dare try the Crab Cakes here since they resembled a flat deep fried patty. I did however go with... More

We wanted to like this place, but it was AWEFUL. The fish smell when we walked in should've been our first clue. And although the service was excellent, the food was some of the worst we've ever eaten, seafood or not. The king crab was overpriced and overcooked, had the texture and flavor of rubber. The crab cakes were OK,... More

Loved this place. Food was super. Prices great. You really feel like you are in a local place. You must go here. Great chowder, swordfish and mussels. Very fresh.

We met friends here and were very pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the food was and how friendly the service even though they were very busy. It is nothing fancy - with paper plates, plastic utensils and glasses but the food is great! Be prepared to wait as it can get crowded but it is worth the wait. I will... More
