We have enjoyed dining at the Crab Cooker in Newport Beach. A friend of mine loves this place. The crab is good here - best when its prime crab fishing season.

We ate at the Crab Cooker yesterday 10/12/14 for dinner with our 4 children. The restaurant was crowded but we were seated within 10 minutes. The tables are very close together and there is little privacy, definitely not for an intimate dining experience. Our food was delivered on paper plates and paper cups for drinks. We ordered warm oysters for... More

Even though this place had been recommended to me by several people, I had not eaten there fearing it might be a little touristy. However, at the urging of someone whose opinion we respected, we decided to give it a chance. On the outside, it did look a little touristy, but the moment we walked in, we felt we may... More

I guess the fact that they use paper plates and plastic utensils makes the place seem casual and fun, but it didn't work for me. We had lunch there on Sunday, but they don't serve lunch on Sunday's so you have to pay the dinner price for whatever you have (we were told larger portions too, but I didn't see... More

This isn't fancy. The table service is barely a step up from a picnic in a park, you munch on dry bread sticks while waiting for your food and they only have three beers on tap. But the seafood selections are incredible, delicious, innovative and very reasonably priced. Depending on where you sit, you can watch them grill your salmon... More

A wedding brought family together at what is my sister-in-laws favorite restaurant. It's been around so long they must be doing it right. Although they don't take reservations, the staff out all 14 of us together. Being a few weeks too early for steamed clams (so sad) I ordered the shrimp with bacon skewer and was happy to get less... Fun place, pricey, food good, chowder great. Should have silverware and real plates for the price you pay.

Took a small group to Crab Cooker. In our group's opinion, this place has been overhyped. The food was just ok. The service was just ok. The decor was "crowded" on the walls. Good value for the money, though. Might try it again, just to see if it was just an off day for the CCooker.

This is likely one of few mom & pop restaurants left in Newport Beach today. It remains true to its origin by offering no-frill yet fresh and tasty seafood on paper plates. If you have to wait in line , which is not uncommon, fetch a bowl of clam chowder while sitting on the outdoor bench to fill up the... More
