Not worth the $

For the second time I went to Friar Tucks and don't plan on ever returning. It's a beautiful restaurant and the staff is very good. However the bill was about $100 for 2 and the quality of the food was barely above a chain diner. I ordered prime rib that was just barely ok. The other member in the... read more

Friar Tuck's features live local musicians in the bar 7 nights per week, a varied grille menu plus fondue dishes, and the spreading (faux) tree covering the main dining room. Food preparation and quality is consistent, with some excellent items (like Tempura Tiger Shrimp and Reese's Peanut Butter Pie). With a good local clientele Tuck's can feel like the local... More

I really enjoy going to Friar Tuck's and I have been there many many times. The primary draws for me are: Convenience: It is right in lovely downtown Nevada City. Music: There is live music 7 days a week. Performers are talented local artists and it is like seeing a friend when the are there playing. Atmosphere: Tuck's has a... More

Fun, fun, fun. I love this place. The ambiance is cool ~ they have a huge fake tree in the middle of the room. Very Sherwood Forrest like. Everything is delicious! Everything, fondue, salads, steaks, lamb - I've had them all! They also have a bar on one side with a fabulous wine selections by the glass and a live... More

OK. I have now been here twice and will probably not go back. Why? Because it's pricey and the food doesn't measure up to their high prices. Most main courses are in the $30+ range, which is high considering the food quality. I believe that If the prices were a little lower and the food quality better, this place would... More

My husband and I have lived in Nevada City since 1998 and have never been to Friar Tucks. So since it was my birthday, we decided to splurge and go. The hard small breadsticks and mayo tasting dip brought while you wait was really CHEAP for a restaurant supposedly so highly rated, and definitely high priced. The cocktails were good.The... More

I enjoyed the meal but thought the Ribs were salty. The Lobster was huge and worth the wait to cook. The appetizers were mediocre at best(fondue & clams). The caesar salads were good. The restaurant was nice and the music was lovely.

My friends and I decided to splurge the last night we were in Nevada City and find a nice restaurant to eat at; we stumbled into Friar Tuck's a bit by accident, and we were SO glad we did! First of all the cocktails were dangerously delicious (I ordered a chocolate martini) but the FOOD... had swiss cheese fondue and... More
