Average dining. Nice atmosphere and staff, but food just okay.

The diner has a cute story and history, the staff were nice, the portions HUGE, but just ordinary, Denny's style food. The kids liked all of the black bear decorations, but when you spend $60 on lunch for a family of 4, you kind of hope the food would be a little better.

Stopped for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. The staff handled the large volume of people very well making sure no one was missed. We sat at the counter and watched 4 people work the kitchen. They worked well together as did the wait staff, All were happy and cheerful. The breakfast was great and we did not wait long.... More

I loved there homemade soup. Then there was the green beans with bacon, yummy too. I had the Chicken Fried Steak for dinner. I see they don't show the dinner menu on Trip Advisor but believe me they serve some great dinner items. I saw what looked to be a huge Taco Shell with (I believe) a Taco salad inside.... More

You know, they have a lot of nice options on the menu, and they are super kid-friendly, but every time I go I regret it a couple of hours later. There are digestive consequences, shall we say.

My family tried this chain twice on a Northern Calif. road trip and both times the food was disappointing. Food was lukewarm, and prices were no better than Los Angeles. The Mt. Shasta branch service was also bad -- the waitress pressured us to order right away, then she got the egg order wrong and we had to hunt her... More

Triple-deck-er club is made with fresh roasted turkey (no luncheon meat) and a HUGE portion of fries. Food is very good and service is fantastic. This is a great chain diner. Visiting Mount Shasta, CA or just driving through on Interstate 5, stop here for and meal and you'll be satisfied. Just seconds off the freeway and walking distance from... More

Since we were staying the evening in mt Shasta on our way to Washington we decided to go to the original black bear diner. I ordered breakfast food and my hash browns were burnt. Yuck

My girlfriend and I stopped here on our road trip down to San Francisco. We loved the food we had gotten. I had gotten a burger and she had gotten a taco salad which was enormous. If we were to drive back down we would make sure to stop by the Black Bear Diner again...

Black Bear is a small chain. I think this restaurant may have been the original. Plentiful platters at reasonable prices. Quite extensive a menu.
