Good Food...Reasonable Prices

Black Bear is a small chain. I think this restaurant may have been the original. Plentiful platters at reasonable prices. Quite extensive a menu.

We stopped here for lunch on a weekday while driving I-5. We were seated quickly in a comfortable booth, and the hostess took, and filled, our drink orders. Our waitress was a friendly woman who had helpful menu suggestions and stopped by regularly to see if we needed anything. The food came out in no time at all. I had... More

Was driving from Seattle to San Francisco and needed to grab a bite for early morning breakfast. It was about 5:30am. While passing through Mount Shasta I saw the signs for this place and decided to stop. I love diner food and Big Bear Diner looked just like my kind of place. It was early so I wasn't sure if... Stopped in on our way home to Hanford, CA. Wanted to take a pic for Nicola at the Hanford Black Bear. It was busy, but the waitress took time to smile and keep my tea glass filled. Had the chicken tortilla soup. Just spicy enough to keep it interesting. Took my pics, bought some postcards, and hit the road. Nice... More

High energy staff make this a fun experience, with good food. If you want a San Fransico bistro dining experience you will need to, well, go to San Fransico; this is American diner menu, just plain food, well prepared and served. For dinner we shared the Bob's Big Bear Burger Delux. It is enough for 1 active teen or 2... More

The original Black Bear Diner is just a block off I-5 in Mt. Shasta City, CA, and is not only very convenient for those of us who frequently travel from Washington State to the Bay Area of California, but the food, service and atmosphere is great! Being the original one, it has a lot of interior charm. On the other... More

This place is busy. They serve huge portions. It and easy off and on the I 5 highway. Not only is breakfast giant so are their lunch and dinners. As for small chains go I highly recommend this particular Black Bear Dinner. I believe its the original one. They also have lots of local history posted on their walls as... More

They serve your food on huge platters , and it's so good! My son was barely able to finish his huge burger platter, and that's very unusual. We were all stuffed and wishing we had a Black Bear where we live.Probably a good thing that we don't! The service was excellent, and our bill for 4 people to eat all that... More

We ate here after a long, fun day hiking on the mountain it also happened to be on Thanksgiving day, perhaps this was the problem. The waitress was less than friendly and very abrupt. The food was almost inedible. I've eaten at one other Black Bear Diner and it was fine. Unfortunately this one was awful.
