The seafood Cioppino for one could feed two. Amazing. They gave me a bib with my silver ware and I thought, "yeah, right." Use the bib. I loved my meal so much, I devoured it like a ravenous beast. Some people seem to dock the ratings for Phil's for atmosphere or it "not being a real restaurant." It's called Phil's... More

A friend took us to this place and said it was his families favorite... He was right on. The food was great with a huge selection, good prices, and very causal. They had a huge selection of wines and the bar tender was great. You order at the counter and then they bring your food out.

It's a fish market, no, it's a restaurant, hey it's both, with a bar...The clam chowder was excellent, as was the bay shrimp and crab salad, but a salad isn't a good test of this place. Actually we like the ambience, and it really is a beach restaurant, as we saw when we wandered out to the back. We got... More

Went just this Saturday night at about 7PM and as usual it was slammed with people. For a good reason - this is just really good food without any pretenses. If you're looking for $10 a glass wine - head on down to Carmel and dine in Clint's neighborhood. Had to park down the street - which is pretty much... More

Fish lunch and dinner does not get any fresher, and the Fish Stew (equivalent of Cioppino) was one of the best 3 I have had in my life. The "ambience" is not formal jacket and tie; it is informal casual on picnic table dining. Which is just fine; you are there for the food!

Both times we visited, the food was very tasty. Both times we had difficulty finding parking because the place tends to get packed on the weekends. Be prepared to possibly walk some distance from your car and once you get inside, be prepared to wait in line to order (possibly a long line). We had the seafood sliders and a... More

I called the restaurant for information on take out cioppino. I showed up with a pot anticipating fresh cioppino. Instead, I was given 'old' cioppino which came out of a refrigerator. I was told that I had to order ahead of time. The person on the phone did not tell me that important information. I was very mad to say... More

Overall this isn't a bad place to eat, just keep in mind that it's not really a restaurant in the conventional sense. There is very limited parking and usually long lines at the one of maybe two registers where you place your order, the food is delivered fairly quickly though. The New England Clam Chowder was excellent; hot, flavorful, lots... More

This is one of our favorite places to eat. We make sure we go there every time we go to Monterey. Lots of food for the money. It can be really busy on a holiday weekend but they do a great job getting you your food very quickly.

It's Phil's. If you have not tried it then head over now. We went Sunday. The line longest we've seen it. Food is so good we did not give a second thought to not waiting. I usually have the steak & fries but afraid at my age I won't be able to see my toes. So I tried something different... More
